Hi Sylver Queen! I’m so sorry you’re facing this. I’m afraid I don’t have much information about managing this disease. We put down our two remaining hens and it was so upsetting. I wonder if your state extension office would have any information or perhaps a local farm vet? We found it hard to...
Thank you for posting this. We had a hen who came back as having passed from avian tb. We culled the rest of the flock and it was the most devastating experience. I hope we did the right thing.
One thing to note, a symptom of avian tb can be jerky/stilted walking. This was the first symptom in...
Thank you so much. We ended up having a vet help us. They came to our house and I got to hold and rock our chickens as they passed peacefully. I feel so guilty about putting them down. I hope we did the right thing.
We recently had to put down our two remaining hens. Our girls all meant the world to me, and I miss them so much already. I don't know if anyone will ever read this, but I just wanted to memorialize all five of our sweet girls who are now gone.
We lost our first one to Mareks 3 years ago when...
Thank you! That is a good point to consider. There is a local service in our town where a vet can come put your animal down. It’s expensive but we were considering it. I wonder if a vet would be lower risk of spreading contamination. I’m just struggling emotionally with it all.
We have been advised to consider culling our flock. We just have two hens who are 4.5 years old. Our sweet buff silkie Kitka (which means ponytail in Polish) and our salmon faverolles Pancake. They are our sweet little pets. We love their cooing noises and funny antics.
Our cochin recently...
Thank you so much. They don't seem to be suffering, but they are thin and I know they can hide their disease. We were able to get a phone consult with a vet tomorrow and the state extension is reaching out to a chicken vet for his opinion too. If we have to put them down, we may pay for an at...
Thank you--that's what we were thinking too. We have two pet hens left and they are so sweet (a little silkie and salmon faverolles) but I fear they have it due their low weight. I'm scared of us getting sick from them.
I think we may try to cull them at home. The closest vet is an hour drive...
Hi! Our hen was just found to have avian TB. The state didn't have advice, but referred us to some vets who can hep. Would you mind sharing how this ended up for you? We suspect our other 2 hens have it because they are thin despite eating. We are scared that we could get sick.

Our necropsy came back that our chicken had avian mycobacteriosis. I'm going to call the lab, but does anyone have experience with this? Do we need to cull our flock? Could I have TB from them?
Just to add: We thought she was eating but maybe she was just pretending to do so. She died at night so I'm surprised there wasn't more food in her crop. Her droppings were always green and yellow and runny. We had also given them corid in case it was cocci.
We just got a necropsy back for our chicken. It says the results were inconclusive and that she was very thin. Does anyone know what could have caused this? I feel bad that we could have helped her and done more.
She ate all the 20% protein feed all time and we gave her eggs to help bulk her...
Thank you all again for your support! It means the world.
We got our preliminary report back that our Jasmine had ovarian and pulmonary tumors. Poor sweet girl!
We’re relieved to know she is at peace now. Fly high sweet Jasmine!
