I actually got her out with the whole flock! The more aggressive rooster I left in the coop, and used the lawnmower (blades off) to gently herd everyone else in the direction of each other, and distract the 2nd rooster from chasing her away; it took a couple days of herding but it worked! She...

Yeah I've honestly no idea what to do about him. He's more an extreme nuisance than anything, and you can see the little chicken gears in his head working when I bring out the food, but he seems to think attacking me is of more importance than clean food or water, or even the safety of his hens...

Okay so update! I corralled the rooster in the coop while the rest of them free roamed, and used the lawnmower (blades off of course), to gently herd Jafar in with the rest of the flock, or the flock towards Jafar when they strayed too far or the other rooster tried to chase her off. It...

Huh. Actually nevermind. I had Jafar locked in the coop alone while the hens and smaller rooster roamed, with the big aggressive rooster separated. The flock wanted to go in, and now they're all in together minus the aggressive rooster. They're wary of each other and want to come back out now...

She healed really well! Ive got some ideas for an indoor coop but currently she's been moved to another room to muffle her off-key attempts at crowing and give her some more room; ive been prioritizing trying to get her back outside with the other chickens, as the pandemic/stress is taking a...

I actually had accidentally 'litter' trained a chicken in a matter of speaking when I was a kid which Is why I had the idea. She liked being pet so much it must've been seen as a reward, but I'd move her to the grass when she looked like she was gonna poop. From then on she'd get off my lap to...

Oh this is great to hear. This also explains a lot, as when I was a kid some hand raised chicks were unsuccessfully introduced to the full flock. Id thought it was the fact they were smaller/younger, not that they weren't introduced properly. Thank you again! I'll see what I can do and try...

This is a good idea! I might combine this with the other suggestion of a smaller cage to keep her safe, and put her in at night after the others are used to her again.

Oh man thank you for that! If we get her litter trained I dont mind her roaming the house like we've had birds/parrots do in the past tbh, especially since she will be able to follow me outside which was too dangerous for the parrots. Im mostly just looking for a spot for her to roost at night...

Oh! I'll definitely look into those! Thank you very much for your help and tips on reintroduction! I'll have to see if I can get ahold of a wire crate, all of ours are pretty big and plastic/collapsible with just the metal door, so I cant imagine cleaning when the flock gets through with it lol...

So one of my hens, tiny little Japanese bantam named Jafar, got attacked by what we'd been guessing was a hawk or crow a few weeks ago when the weather was nice, and we brought her indoors temporarily til she was healed. (She's fine, her eye was bruised and she had a small puncture wound on her...

Can chickens have soft squishy crop, that isnt a medical issue?

Ive never had chickens with doughy crop before, but my silky rooster's crop felt awfully squishy tonight. I plan to check him over first thing in the morning, but I was wondering if it was possible his crop just happens to be a bit squishy, or if I should just start looking into doughy crop...

    Question about run bedding

Yeah I thought it felt a bit small too once I got it built, they all sleep piled on top of one another in one nest box which is..not something ive seen with the last chickens we had who slept further apart and on the roost bars. Theyve def got more room than that in there and its not that cold...

    Question about run bedding

Awesome, thats great to hear! I always worry about pets eating things they shouldn't and I know chickens can eat practically anything, but its really awesome to know they typically avoid it! Ah I see what you mean! I didnt realize it had to be a mix, thank you so much for explaining! I'll...
