I have tried a couple things like that. including trying to make one out of gauze and tape. but she manages to scratch through it or gets out of it. maybe because of where the injury is; it’s hard to cover and protect from herself :barnie
thanks @alinas2010 :) :love
I do think it’s maybe looking slightly better. the hole part still looks pretty big. but the edges seem more light pink and I can’t see all the way through..?? and it doesn’t bleed as frequently… all to say I am also actually pretty hopeful it’s just healing very...
it’s been a while since I have you an update on Millhouse.
we gave her 10 days of antibiotics. and spent about 7 days swaddling her in a towel and holding her on our laps or keeping her confined in a small pet carrier. when we let her out to stretch her legs, she was very closely supervised...
thanks for those ideas! I was wondering about booties or something I like the idea of vet wrap. she sent me home with some supplies like that!
I was like can I tape her feet to the roost bar 😂 (joking!)
we went back to the vet today because she keeps scratching it, opening it up and bleeding a lot. we tried a small cat cone… but it’s too heavy. wrapping it in gauze or something causes her to scratch at it more.
when she’s in her carrier she doesn’t really have room to scratch at it so I’m...
@alinas2010 y’all were super helpful! and I wasn’t going to even try to find a vet until you brought it up 🫶🏻🫶🏻🫶🏻🫶🏻
and definitely hard to tell what the heck was going on with this thing!
I don’t think the neosporin did any extra harm 😇
yes I love this carrier :) I found it for $5 at goodwill brand new with the original tag still!
this vet is a specialist in poultry! she grew up with chickens, studied them in school, has raised them her whole life. I did have to drive 50 minutes to see her but it felt worth it to see a chicken...
another update since we went to the vet today.
the vet thinks it may be an ear infection that caused an abscess that ruptured (or something like that). she said it’s very deep and she can see important parts in there. so we’re pretty lucky she didn’t hurt an artery or anything more vital.
we...
first, thanks so much @alinas2010 for all the kind responses and advice :love
our run is in the yard and it has a wire fence so she can go over there and hang by them :) while they are all stuck in the run. lol the others are very jealous.
I only have six total chickens and they are all very...
I have an appointment with a chicken vet on Monday. if y’all think it’s more urgent I could take her into an emergency place?
it’s sunny here today so I let her out to roam our small yard for a bit - under supervision. she wanders around and scratches about. I even shut my other chickens out of...
I can’t exactly tell if she’s scratching with her claws or her knuckles… definitely her feet. how can I make her stop?
we’ve been doing the ointment twice a day. going to get some of the hibiclens now.
thank you
thank you so much for supporting me through this!!
here’s a couple pics I took this morning before flushing and slathering with ointment.
she seems slightly better? the wound looks less bloody and pussy, but still quite bad. it is like a deep cavity and almost looks like it goes through to...
