I have the same situation. My broody has never been wormed, so I was planning on starting with Wazine and following up with Valbazen. Since she is broody, I questioned whether she would drink enough water dosed with Wazine for it to be effective. Is that why you suggested just using safeguard...
Max has shown some improvement. She eats and drinks if I hold it up to her. The labored breathing has dramatically decreased. Her diarrhea went away and her overall strength has improved to the point that she tries to stand on her good side. The paresis of the left leg;however, has continued...
NEW SYMPTOM: It appears like she has some paresis of the left leg. I noticed her compensating with her left wing to move. This new symptom makes me think Marek's disease. I looked up the symptoms and now she shows all the signs of the neural form. (She was vaccinated at the hatchery)...
A couple questions:
How many days do you give antibiotics to a chicken?
I started worming with Wazine and was going to follow up with a broad spectrum wormer. I am assuming I would continue to do this, right?
Thanks!
Thank you! thank you! thank you to both of you for all your help! I dug out my algebra skills from the deep dark depths of my brain and did the calculations to the suggested oral intake of 125mg/ml per kg and came up with about the same that you did. I don't want to get my hopes up too much...
The tapeworms were in a flock I had in another state so there are no known cases of worms in my current flock. She is not labored breathing at all today. Just weak and sleepy. she actually has been attempting to stand a bit. I have been hydrating her with a dropper and she has been orally...
I just weighed her again now and she is still 3.4 pounds converted to grams is 1542.21. I should have just went to an online converter instead of using that cheap kitchen scale.
The 3.6 pounds is the accurate weight. I did the grams on a cheap kitchen scale and just looked and I actually did read it wrong. With the correct weight, is she still too small for antibiotics? My husband is planning on culling her tonight, but may hold off if you think that a last ditch...
She made it through the night, amazingly. She was looking pretty bad yesterday, heavy breathing with her mouth open. Really didn't expect her to make it through the day, but she did. I was preparing my son for her passing, as this is one of his fav chickens, by telling him that Max was going...
Yes, she is warm. I have had her in our guest bathroom right next to the air vent so the heated air is near by. I think that is what I would prefer to do as well. She is such a stubborn chicken, it's amazing that she has made it this long. Thank you again!! Your help has meant a lot to me.
I was beginning to suspect that anyway. I will save all those pics and information for future reference. I have never dealt with a sick chicken before. Would it be cruel to make her comfortable and do the best I can at feeding and watering her until she passes, or is it best to put her down...
