I'm sorry you lost your bird. She was beautiful. And I LOVE that picture of her jumping for her treat!! It looks like you were both very lucky to have each other.
Wow! That is one beautiful coop and run! I saw the first picture and literally thought that was your house with a run next to it. Give him a heartfelt "great job" from me! ( And smart thinking, getting the coop built while he's still got that "new car smell" of a newlywed. Lol)
I just wanted to thank you for posting this. I've never had chicks (my friend kindly raised the babies she'd hatched til I got my electric fence up) and I had NO IDEA the crop could look like that on a chick. I would have been very worried to see something like that without this for reference...
I love the suggestion above about taking her a bag of BOSS or meal worms so she can give them a "treat" but do it in a way that is better for your babies. It's very kind of you to be mindful of her motivation. Loneliness is a big thing for older people and i'm sure your chickens make her day...
Thanks, guys! I was Soo pleased! And it really is DELICIOUS!! I was like a little kid at Christmas .I kept creeping over to see it rise and giggling like a little girl (i'm 45) to see it working... And then when I tasted it!!!! Yay! I'm on page 1057. I used the recipe and I used the tip...
Hi all!! First time introducing myself, but I've been stalking this thread for weeks .I was trying to wait til I'd finished reading it all to post but I just coulf not stand it. Y'ALL!!! I made bread today for the first time and it is fantastic!!!! I made the Gump bread from post #507. Thank...
I hope you find someone to help with your coop finish-up. I think you got a good suggestion about asking at wood mill/lumber shops/other areas. The only input I can offer is re: chicken grit....and it's not an exact sort of answer, either. I put grit out in a small dish free choice available at...
Amen!! I was sitting outside a few weeks ago in the middle of the day and a raccoon came out of the ravine by my house....followed by FIVE babies. Mama led them straight to the chicken pen. Luckily I was in the middle of putting up my electric fence. It sure put some urgency into the finish...
Love that multi-level roost! I'll be adding that to my "coop dreams" :)

Great coop... And it has my all time favorite feature--- the nest box accessed from the storage area!! (I'm living vicariously through you now while my poor babies are in a tractor supply coop til I can get one built. Lol)
Great job!
Thanks guys! I was THRILLED to find them cause I loved them when I was little. There are actually five or six back there I had no idea about. I'll enjoy them even more knowing I won't have to move them. ;) .Thanks again!
Hi guys! Fairly new to chickens here (less than a year) and I discovered this bush when cleaning brush behind my coop. I love it (Google says American Beauty bush?) but I have no idea if the berries would be harmful to my ladies. Anyone here have knowledge of these bushes?
