Bullied chicken is aggressive with me.

I’ve never had a human aggressive hen. Can you have a rooster? I know my roosters do not tolerate the girls fighting.

Five week old chicks not going into coop at night

If they are with older chicken they might be picked on when they go into the roost. I usually look new poultry into the house they’re to home to for at least 4 days. I only keep similar age groups together.

At what age do baby chicks start to DUST BATH?

Surprisingly young! Mum will want a dust bath as soon as she can after her babies are hatched. They all gather around & watch and some precocious babies join in.

One rooster tried to spur the other! Does one need to go?!

No against any predator I know of. Rooster usually gets eaten first as he tries to protect his girls. Foxes dont care about spurs, neither do dogs’ eagles are oblivious!!!

Its difficult to keep even brother Roosters with girls. Once theyre mature theyll compete. That means fighting or at least sparing. They also wont allow each other to mate. There can be a lot of clumsy fighting on top of a poor hen. Hens suffer from being jumped on twice as much as one rooster...

    What made you happy today?

I was sitting on my verandah drinking coffee this morning. I raise baby Polish close to the house in the garden where there is plenty of shelter and my dogs guard them from predators including Magpies, Currawongs and Crows. They somehow know I was there and decided to join me. I know it’s not...

Pale wattles and not thriving in my Polish Rooster

If I noticed a listless Roo I would check where he sleeps. Mine often sleep separate to their girls - all the better to guard them. I always suspect red mights. You will not see them on the chicken. You will find them in the tiniest of cracks near where he sleeps. Often where the perch joins...
