    Watery stool and bare butt

I went and checked on her again today, her crop is very full and squishy. I will check that again in the morning to see if that’s working the way it should. It looks like she has been falling asleep standing up in the run, at least closing her eyes for a long time.

    Watery stool and bare butt

Hi Chicken friends, We have one hen who’s been having very loose stools for a couple of weeks now. At first I thought it was because we gave them half a watermelon, but the diarrhea has continued. When I let them out this morning I saw her poop and it literally just looked like a squirt of...

I may or may not have ended up with 10 chicks this year. I just got them from Family Farm and Home. I did build my coop with room for around 25 hens so I still have room for more!! :)

Not trying to bring politics into this forum, but I came across an interesting story here regarding local control over chicken-keeping ordinances. It's nice to see that there is some support in the state legislature to allow more fair treatment across the state. Chickens OK in Detroit but not...

I got my first egg!! Didn’t realize it soon enough so it’s already frozen, but this is my most expensive egg ever! 🥚

My coop and run is getting closer! The chickens don't seem to mind being in the coop when we're working and free ranging when I can be out there with them. Can't wait to finish the run so they can be outside when they please.

Probably not. Unfortunately, they're not exactly the type of people that want other's help.

We may have just adopted a rooster. I'm 90% sure this was the same roo that visited us a few months ago. I brought him back to his home then, but has since returned and started sleeping on our screened in porch. I found out that the original owners don't have a very secure coop and have lost...

Thank you for sharing your article! I think it was the polar vortex of 2019 that he was remembering, right before we moved to our house. I’m already being put at ease with our plan.

I need y’all to help me feel better about not insulating the coop. All the ‘always-open’ ventilation will be at the roof level and I plan on sealing any gaps that are at the floor/roost level. The run will be all hardware cloth but I’ll cover the bottom half with plastic for the winter. My...

Coop construction update! It’s hard getting stuff done when you have kids and school schedules and a full-time job, but we’re getting there! I now have 4 walls, a floor, and a roof 😊. Windows are going in tomorrow. I plan on getting the girls out by this weekend. Will still have to paint, add...

Six Chicks, one feathering a lot slower - Also, what breed are they??

Yeah, the rest seem to be varying shades of slate.

That makes me wonder if my slow-to-feather friend is actually an buff colored orpington like the store said, and the fluffier light-colored bird is something else. I agree with @AinaWGSD that the feathering looks like it could be splash colored

I got home and took the chicks out for their outside time and tried to get a few better pictures. Love to hear what everyone thinks!
