Well the posts from the links most describe the internal; organ and neurological affects of the Mareks disease not their outward physical behavior leading to death. But by the death rate it sounds like this could be the thing doing it :(
My partner had moved the chicks into a cage that had...
Hi All
Ok like the title asks. I can't find any evidence online that they can.
The reason I ask is that I just incubated a clutch of 25 eggs. I was really happy as 20 hatched and all looked well. Then the troubles started. Found one dead laying on its side then a day later another. Then...
Sounds way to clinical for me. I doubt if that is the issue for you. I have found that buying eggs online yields very poor hatch rates. I'm not sure if it's the shipping process or that online sellers have weak genetic stock or poor fertility rates but all my own eggs hatch great. The most ive...
well they all seem to eat a lot of food for sure ands have biggish crops. The crumb as tiny bits and dust as well. He was a day late hatching out was a good clean hatch.
Hi Thanks for that yes is a lot of help. I will go to around day 6 or 7 then I'm in the deadline ok. That way I will have a good collection of eggs to incubate :)
But why would a 3 day old healthy looking chick die? He was eating and drinking fine... :( nature is weird!
Just finished my incubation of our own coturnix eggs. Tried 12 and 7nhatched really well. Unfortunately one died this morning :( not sure why as they were all strong hatchlings and have been up and running for 3 days eating and drinking like great. Way better than any chicken chicks. Quail...
??? That's just crazy! Most quail are raised in captivity so no chance of them feasting on toxic plants. Quail eggs are great hard boiled as an appetiser. Need a lot to replace chicken eggs for baking though ;) ha ha ha
Just brilliant! Sort of what I am doing already but not deep enough so time to put another couple of inches on top ;) thanks for this article it's a great help and much more natural for the quail.
Cheers

I'd be interested to know how the sliding door thing works for you. How are can you, open it before you'd loose control of the birds and risk one getting out? Looks very smart. You have some great DIY skills there.
lol that will be like 50 crazy bumble bees with legs all running round like crazy ha ha ha too cute to imagine! Will let you know how my humble 12 hatch goes. Still got 10 days...
