Soo beautiful! *High-five* Good Work! First chickens!
I've been handling them as much as possible- one has 'helped' me write my paper...
And the difference is really astonishing between the chicks- the chick that hatched on the 21st has full wings of feathers, while the one from the 23rd day is...
...you have hens that launch themselves at your head every time you bend down to say 'hi'!
.... they'll gallop across the yard to see you, even when you don't have food.
.....young children can pick them up and get nothing more then a chicken-grumble.
......when even your worst layer still gives...
Sorry for not checking yesterday! Congrats on your successful hatch! Yay! Babies!
Lesson for both of us- no matter how irritating and inconsistent the incubator is, no matter how inconvenient the power-outages are, no matter how stressful the shipping can be.... these babies know what to do...
Oh, I'm so glad your chicks are responding back to you- They are coming soon, and can't wait to meet their mommy. (Post pictures!) It'll be like popcorn- one egg hatches, then another, then all of them hatch!
and Ariel- hold on tight! Hatch day is coming soon for you as well!
My last straggler...
So, about my interesting day- the grand total- 6 chicks! (And one more possibility- one chick's currently in the incubator still peeping out of it's hole in the shell)
My wonderful parents came to rescue me from campus, and my dad spent some time fixing my car so I could drive home- I'm...
(Edited to add pics)
Good thinking! I asked my parents to set up a space- being experianced 'chicken-grandparents'. I'm sure they've made it suitable!
I woke to two more chickies! Another Blue Ameraucana, and a Black Ameraucana! They are rumbling around the limited space, and keep turning the...
Okay- now a moment of panic- I just got back- hiked and volunteered at the state park all day- then had some car problems that require my parents to come up and get me tomorrow. That's not the major problem, though-
I have one chick and four pipped egg- two are the same from this morning, and...
An hour later- zipping! Then I left for class....
And BABY! Quick hatch- took about two hours to zip and push out- then climb over all her siblings-to-be! I have two more pips, as well!
A cute little Blue Americana!- And quite vocal- my little cheerleader for everyone else to...
What an excellent idea! I've been chirping and talking to them a bit, but maybe they'd rather hear chicken language. I'm currently on the other side of campus, but when I get back, you know exactly what I'll be doing- Soo close for both of us!
And welcome to the Ameraucana Waiting Party...
Almost the end of day 20- no pips, no chirps, and I'm a little worried. Hopefully when I check tomorrow I'll have a few pips or someone zipped!
Regardless of hatching, I have to leave Saturday night- so I may end up driving home with an incubator full of eggs that remain unhatched.....
I'm...
