Thank you for all the comments. Morning of day 4 now and doing good; not more losses. I know some comments have been about incubating and brooding the ducks and chicks together. Last time when I lost all my chicks (7 total), there were no ducks involved so I do not believe this to be the issue.
So update this morning…all are still alive! Since last time they died on day 3, I feel like if we make it through tomorrow we hopefully will be out of the woods.
We started with 13 duck eggs and 11 chicken eggs. They were put in a week apart due to hatching time difference. 4 duck eggs stopped developing after 1 week and 3 more after 2 weeks. So far 5 have hatched and 2 are still on n the incubator. They were a day early so these last 2 still have time...
Incubator temp and humidity was steady all the way through until 3 days before hatch when I increased the humidity. I did not think to check for fluff in the fan when I cleaned it. No sanitation specifically just hot water with Dawn. The eggs are from my flock just like all prior ones. No change...
Food is new bag. Because I have chicks and ducklings, they are eating all flock crumbles made specifically for new babies. Everything was cleaned with hot water and Dawn soap and thoroughly rinsed.
Because the ones died last time, I changed from a heat lamp to a heat plate. Food, bedding, etc is all the same. The hatches earlier in the year were when it was warm and since it’s now cold I’ve put this hatch and the last on in the house.
They immediately went under the heat plate. I was advised to check the temp under it by using a meat thermometer (I don’t have anything else in the house right now to use). It has showed a constant 92 on the floor underneath. I read online 90-95 is good. I made it through the night only loosing...
Needing help ASAP. Had 8 chicks hatch late last night and today. I’ve let them fluff up in the incubator before moving to brooder. Once in brooder they were fine for a few hours but then I heard lots of peeping. I went to check on them and 5 were laying on their sides just screaming. So far 3...
