Suddenly sick rooster (and avian flu in my state!)

Yes, sorry I forgot to follow up! Only my rooster died and the rest of the flock remained completely healthy. I didn't do a necropsy or anything, so I still don't know for sure what took out that rooster.

Suddenly sick rooster (and avian flu in my state!)

Quick update! I called the michigan hotline for avian flu and spoke to a usda agricultural bird specialist doctor. First, she was sooo nice. I.feltnkind fo dumb being a little backyard chicken person needing help when I'm not even really a farm or anything. But she said it was good to have...

Suddenly sick rooster (and avian flu in my state!)

Thanks everyone for responding! I'm at work now but will provide more detailed info tonight. My rooster guy died last night, sometime between midnight and 530am, sadly All the other chickens have been acting totally healthy and normal, will check on them later on today when I get home again...

Suddenly sick rooster (and avian flu in my state!)

Hi all, Having a little panic here! One of my roosters has suddenly (in one day) become very lethargic. He is not eating or drinking. I have put him in a quarantine cage in my garage to keep him separate from my flock. He doesn't seem mucusy or coughing/sneezing, and doesn't have any obvious...

In a word, how would you describe your garden as of today?

Invaded (my chickens and every other animal in a 10 mile radius, it seems)!

Northern fowl or red roost mite (hopefully not both!)

Thank you! They were in the coop and on chickens in the daytime, so that's good to know that the daytime thing is fairly indicative of NFM. I removed all bedding yesterday burned it, and washed the whole coop (very sore today lol!). I have Poultry dust and pen and Poultry permethrin spray coming...

Northern fowl or red roost mite (hopefully not both!)

Hi all, I know mites have been asked about many times before, and I've pored over those posts. But I still cannot figure out what type of mite I have! I discovered mites on one chicken's butt the evening of 9/28. I went out yesterday 9/29 and totally emptied out the coop. Here is where I am on...

    New rooster limping after integration

Small update, checked the coop before bed and found CHICKENS IN THE RAFTERS! Omg I didn't realize they could get that high! If my rooster did that, I can see how he got hurt! Will put chicken wire on it tomorrow I guess, that has to be like 7+ feet up! (Also, side note, those are not poops on...

    New rooster limping after integration

Yah he was trying to have sex with my girls and was... Pretty awkward, flailing and falling all over... So injury is definitely a possibiity! (Hoping for that but we will see!)

    New rooster limping after integration

Thank you MTR. mareks disease scares the heck out of me, to be honest. I called an avian vet and am going to try and get him in and get tested. I'll update this thread when I find anything out (fingers hardcore crossed it's not that!). He seems to be improving a bit, so hopefully not? But I want...
