    Dominant rooster dead

Thank y'all for offering up possible answers and condolences. My husband (who picked him up often) said Cream was more overweight than I thought. I am guessing he may have had a heart attack from the stress. I would have gladly sacrificed the young roosters if I would have known the future.

    Dominant rooster dead

He was very fluffy so I'm not sure if he was overweight. The few times I picked him up he was lighter than he looked. His head & comb were fine but I didn't look for hidden marks. He was actually alive & laying down when I found him. He had some yellow runny on his bottom, so I put him in a...

    Dominant rooster dead

I have a separate rooster pen next to my hen pen with 10 mixed bantams that generally get along well. I put two 6 month old brother cockerals (silkie/americauna mix) in there b/c they were double-teaming my hens. I was initially afraid for their safety, but I found my dominant cochin rooster (4...

    Sumatra Rooster Noises

I agree! I can hear the air coming in and out. He is fine within an hour or so. He is worse on hotter days. He is my only completely black rooster with lots of feathers that doesn't help with cooling down. I tried videoing today but he was much quieter. It is a bit overcast here & cooler. I...

    Sumatra Rooster Noises

That is comforting to hear. I really hope that is the case here. He is such a sweet boy. Do Sumatras mature slower than other breeds? How old was yours when he began crowing? I got him & a hen in separate batches of bantams at Tractor Supply. He is almost 3x her size!

    Sumatra Rooster Noises

I have provided chick grit since about 4 weeks if given any treats besides crumbles. Usual treats are corn scratch, 5 grain scratch, or dried mealworms. He has been on the ground since 2 months old with access to normal ground pebbles. I will check his mouth, throat, & crop as suggested. Will...

    Sumatra Rooster Noises

I have a 4 month old Sumatra rooster that hiccups and makes odd soft honking noises immediately after he eats for up to one hour. His breathing also seems labored during this time. I noticed it when he was about two months old & separated him for 30 days. He had watery stools for a few days. I...

    Help with Mallard Genders

Based on my experience, both sexes have the green sheen on their heads. You are correct that the males have a more hoarse voice and the females seem more alert, reactive, and are loud mouths. It's been awhile since I've had mallard ducklings, so I'm not sure of their feathering at this stage. I...
