    I would definitely put something on the wood to preserve it because in a couple years it will start to leave.

    Yes get some cover over it for sure. It would be nice to see a pick to get a better idea of how we can help. If it is leaking where the box attaches to the coop there is a cheap way to fix that.     We decided we wanted to start having fresh eggs so we needed a coop. I've never built one but it was fun. I still need a good floor covering for the coop.     This is our coop and run we just finished today( except rope for pop door and flooring for the coop). It is almost all free materials that were given to us or that I had for some time. The coop is 4'x 5' and the run is 4'x15'. We plan on getting 5 or 6 laying hens.
