You are really lucky what a great find! I would clean everything out and give it a good pressure wash. What is on the floor? If you are happy with the window size I would cut the tin but I would want windows that open for ventilation. So you might want to get different windows first? Are you...
I would line it with hardware cloth if you are keeping them in with an enclosed pen? Now that my coop is predator proof and no chipmunks can get in I am saving a tonne of money on feed. You will like being able to walk in. Add a screen door too! It is super cute, will you paint the same colour?
We use sand screenings from a gravel pit but I tossed in top soil this weekend because they enjoy scratching it around, I also add mulch in too. If you are concerned about sand you can always mix it. If you have asthma Id recommend wearing a mask when you clean them out.
I would clean the coop out really well to remove the coon scent and offer some new afternoon snacks. You might want to change the roost to across from where the coon came in to make them feel more secure.
I'm going to plant the rest of my peppers and tomatoes today. I spent a day digging and chopping out these prickly canes much like raspberry cane only to have them grow back. So much for more garden space....anyone know how to kill these things?
She did a lot of surgeries for blockages mostly dogs eating parts of toys, socks, underwear.....but I don't remember one specifically to repair for a puncture from a bone, at least while I was there. I just remember her talking on and on about how great raw chicken necks were for teeth tartar...
Choking as they are eating it or puncturing on the way down to the stomach before the stomach acid can break it down further. I also just meant someone on a raw dog food diet group might have more info on the risks with cooked chicken bones.
When I worked in a vet clinic the vet fed raw chicken necks to her dogs because it was great for teeth tartar. She always said never feed cooked chicken bones because of the risk of it splintering. I'm not sure if you count that as scientific opinion but it came from a vet with years of...
We get cold snaps -23C here and lower if you count the wind chill. I don't use heat, I just invested in a heated water bowl and extra bedding. The only time I had sick chickens was when I used heat because it made the humidity high. One thing to think about too is your chickens start to get used...
I would remove the solid door, add a screen door and cover it with hardware cloth with fencing over it. You could also get a tarp and make a shade canopy. It is looking really great though, nice job doing it yourself!
I will let you know I just ordered 6 RTL for June :highfive:
I am wondering if they are a breed that gets along well with others, can't seem to find much info on them.
