Australorps are VERY good egg producers and lay until quite old too. i would highly recommend them to any one looking for good laying birds.

Help, 2 chickens with a swollen abdomen and bumble foot. Any ideas?

What Hen has the most beautiful plumage - almost rooster like- Any?

Barnevelders have a beautiful double laced pattern and come in some realy pretty colours. Also the roosters don’t have that patterning, only the ladies.

    Male or female ?

Yes, rooster saddle feathers are very pointy and triangular, those are verry round. I’d say she’s a pullet.

Roo or lady? That is the question

Comb on a roo would usually be a little bigger or pinker and it would have more of those triangular saddle feathers. I’d say pullet.

Is my Barred Rock a roo or pullet?

I’d say cockerel. I agree definitely looks like a mix, this happend to me too. We raise chicks in agriculture class at my high school. They get isa browns, white leghorns and “australorps”. We got an “australorp” rooster from them, his name is sooty and this is him now. Turns out he’s a Rhode...
