I think this is calcium deposits from rooster eating layer feed.

    Sudden death

I figured there would be some signs. I do always isolate the sick bird as well but this bird was one of my most active. I am definitely regretting not trying CPR. RIP

    Sudden death

I always isolate at sign of an issue. This bird was one of my most active even with the molting. she was even flying (during the first chase).

    Sudden death

Thank you for the reply. I wasn’t sure if the rooster chasing her was more of a method of culling. I’ve seen him attack another hen who was noticeably sick and had to be euthanized many years ago. yea all very strange. there is no way internal laying has a sudden death effect right? They’d be...

    Sudden death

I was hoping to get an opinion on a polish chicken I lost suddenly today. I figured I give a recent forum a try.. I live in south Florida where it’s very hot and humid. the polish has really never showed signs of heat stress however she was molting for the last two weeks and not laying, although...

    Devastated! Warning Graphical

I would highly recommend 1/4in hardware mesh and bury it atleast 6in underground. If a predator sees your chickens they test every inch of run.

    Is a closed run necessary?

hey there, I hope backyard chicken keeping has brought you much joy thus far. I also live in a city neighborhood and currently have cats and a possum around. I do not have a chicken run, only a privacy fence for my residence which cats can easily get over. I also use a hentronix automatic solar...

Hard tail barb with no feathers?

Hi all, my frizzle rooster has a very strange, hard barb coming in that doesn’t seem to have any feathers in it. It is thin and hard, almost like a smaller nail, but it’s coming out of his tail. Is this normal? he has been wincing occasionally and idk if it’s general molting discomfort or this...

    Sizzle Hatching/sexing/photo timeline

Thank you for the quick replies. The pic is too close on the satin to where she looked silkie. attached is also the frizzle which I didn’t post. But I think she is a female for sure. Almost no comb and is exceptionally small in stature. The silkie has a more of a rasp in its voice. funny the...

    Sizzle Hatching/sexing/photo timeline

Hi all, i am proud to say my first hatch was a success. i was able to hatch 3/7 eggs under a hen. their interactions are just priceless and i cannot be more thrilled to have to experience this part of 'life.' Needless to say, i know sizzle sexing is of the utmost difficulty, but would like the...

2 chickens passed in 3 days help

Sorry for your loss. Did you notice any foul smell coming from the bird’s crop? Although the yellow diarrhea and lethArgy are symptoms Of coccidiosis. I would treat with corid as a preventative. If any more birds get sick you should locate an avian vet and hopefully get some antibiotics. I hope...
