Two of our 3 week old chicks, who were abandoned by mom, have suddenly developed bulging bare spots on their right "shoulder" area at the base of the neck. Any suggestions?
We have them all in a large dog crate. The chicks are eating and drinking well. Mama is actually sitting on the eggs in a position where she can eat and drink while on the eggs.
She's pretty protective right now, but we may try. It's been about a day or day and a half since the last one hatched. The other 7 hatched two days ago.
Well, I really want them to hatch if possible, and want to "let nature take it's course" as much as possible. She only comes out once or twice a day, but the other chickens "visit" her! We ended up finding 20 eggs when we started candling them. We have 15 we think are viable. I am pretty...
I don't think anyone else is laying there. We believe the other hens lay brown or green eggs and hers are smaller and off-white. We may just try fencing around her and providing some shelter from the weather for now. She is pretty well hidden in rose bushes.
Could we just secure her where she is? She's fairly well hidden now and we were thinking of just leaving her there and putting something over her for a little protection. Will she get up to eat/drink?
HELP!!! My chickens are free range during the day. We noticed today that one of the hens has created a nest and is brooding in our shrubs. It looks like at least 6 to 8 eggs in there. We have no idea how long she's been sitting there. Can we move the nest & eggs? Should we leave her alone...
My hens are 19 weeks old. I opened my nesting boxes last night and now the straw is strewn all over the coop floor. How do I get them to leave it in the box? I will put golf balls in tomorrow.
