Yeah I got chicks in the brooder that are about a month old. You can start introducing them when theyre young but cant put them out in the coop together permanently until theyre full grown. Im actually gonna put my chicks in a pen outside in the run for a few hours and introduce them to the...
Theres really no need to go to the vet. It isn't a hard process at all. I clip my chickens wings once or twice a year and it takes me about 10 mins to do the whole flock. You will need another person to help you though. Basically just hold the chicken under your arm and have the other person...
Yeah I would say 5 weeks is WAY too early to put them out with the rest of the flock. The usual age to have them integrated is 16 weeks. By then the chicks will be on the layer feed. Then theres no worry who is eating what feed.
Ive been told that eggs can sit up to a full week before being put in the bator. Since yours have only been sitting for two days I think youll be fine.
I don't think that putting the nesting boxes on the ground is a big deal. That's where mine are now and I never really had a problem. Raising them up a little would just prevent you from having to bend down as far to collect eggs.
I read a couple other threads on byc and people were saying that...
Putting them where??
I'd say a good height is probably below waist height for the nesting boxes and a little higher for the roosts. They should be easy for the birds to get into. The roosts should be at least 18in apart so the birds don't poop on each other when they're asleep. How many roosts...
Well I would say either remove the panel separating the two sides, or at least cut a hole in the bottom. Put doors on the front of the two front sections, one of which having a chicken door cut in. This was you can still get in there to clean and collect eggs from the front to make it easy. One...
I made these grazing boxes (or grazing frames as ive been calling them) for my birds and they love them. Ive have always just planted grass in them, but im probably going to plant both grass and herbs this spring. If you want to plant both grass and herbs, I think that you may have to make two...
1. So my opinion on this is I prefer the staggered roosts. The birds at the top of the pecking order will take the top roost and the birds at the bottom of the pecking order will be on the bottom roost. Plus I think it saves a little more space in the coop by being able to put them closer...
Game cams all have infrared flashes so you're pretty much safe with any one you pick. If they had a regular flash they'd scare the deer which kinda defeats the purpose of what they're mainly used for.
