As I've heard yes they are good mothers, but be careful they will be very protective just like any other poultry hen would.

Recommendations for how many chickens in my available space...

The standard method is 1 large breed chicken for every 4sq ft. So I believe you have enough room for a couple more.

    when should i see eggs

Haha its fine I like the questions, but yes they rarely go broody, but when they do they get over it in a couple of days, so if you want chicks an incubator would be the way to go.

The average clutch size is 12-14 eggs, with 10-12 of them usually hatching

    when should i see eggs

1 egg a day and about 100 every year. There is a period in time where she will stop due to the amount of sunlight you will get.

Don't think I can free range...

This is true it is truly your decision, and your dog will be a great source of chasing off predators. I experienced my huge Delaware Roo chase off a fox so its probably a good Idea for a rooster just for extra protection.

Does anyone use heaters in extremely cold weather?

As long as the coop is warm and the chickens seem to have no problem with it I would stay away from the heaters.

That means they are probably just starting to hit maturity so I would give them a couple more weeks
