All turned out to be Roosters - Need Help

The final picture you posted with all six lined up on their roost, the one on the far right looks like he has hackles and the other five look so similar that my guess is they are all the same gender. Some will develop at slightly different rates, but by 3 months you'd see a marked difference...

What went wrong during hatch? Warning: graphic pix

Thank you for the article, I read the whole thing. Great info on egg selection, storage and manymother factors besides temp, humidity, turning and lockdown. It looks like nutritional deficiency. One was day 11 (had feathers) the other three were day 18/19. No pips internal or external and all...

What went wrong during hatch? Warning: graphic pix

I have a still air incubator. First hatch was unsuccessful due to low humidity during lockdown. I'd fill trays til they were overflowing and couldn't get humidity past 50 percent. Chicks were shrinkwrapped. Second attempt we moved it to the garage, added sponges and marbles, added water using a...

Do dark eggs take longer to hatch?

I put 12 eggs in our borrowed incubator. 6 are light blue, 6 are dark olive green. On day 20 I saw one pip. 12 hours later heard peeping and two more eggs pipped. Almost 24 hrs after the first pip, nothing. I was franctically reading about when and how to assist a hatch when four chicks hatched...

    Sudden loss of young hen

Thank you. Her crop and belly felt normal. Her tail was always a little droopy, I thought because she was bottom of the pecking order. The other two are 6 months older, so I don't expect similar issues, but I would definitely necropsy if it happens again. I guess it's good we have three babies...

    Sudden loss of young hen

5.5 month old hen, Daisy, was eating, drinking, pooping, laying, active and friendly. One morning she was found dead in the coop. On her back, feet straight up, no injuries. The roosts are only 6 inches off the floor, so she didnt fall. No mites or fleas, no weightloss or waddling, no respitory...

    Hen pecked chick needs help.

The three younger we're all supposed to be hens and were introduced slowly over several weeks. When we realized two of the three younger ones were roos, we started putting the young pullet in with with the two older girls at night and releasing all 5 together into the run during the day. No...

    Hen pecked chick needs help.

This morning our 3 month old buff, Daisy was pecked to the point of drawing blood by a 7 month old hen. She came flying out the coop, panting and blood on her neck. We washed the area with warm soapy water, patted dry, put pressure on the puncture would and slathered with Neosporin. When her...

    New layer taking a break?

Btw, her friend is standing guard at the coop door and singing an egg song like she's the first chicken to lay an egg!

    New layer taking a break?

She gets all flock feed since we have chicks and roosters, but I supplement calcium. Not sure if she can pick it up with her beak. If it was every other day, I wouldn't worry, but three eggs in a row and then nothing....Thanks for the reply, I feel better knowing it's normal.

    New layer taking a break?

Our EE Becky started laying at 7 months. She laid three eggs, three days in a row and hasn't laid anything for three days. Her vent isn't pulsing, food intake and poops look good. Nice red comb. Her main issue is her scissor beak, so we wondered if she wasn't getting enough calcium and has a...

Pullets and cockerels can be sexed here!!!!!!

Thank you! #2 started crowing the very next day. I knew 1 was pullet and 3 was roo, but I was really hopeful 2 was another Green egg laying hen.

Pullets and cockerels can be sexed here!!!!!!

This our little flock. The first three are 12 weeks old and were all feather sexed as female when we bought them as day old chicks. I have my doubts for sure. 1, Looks like a buff orpington, small and sweet. 2. an EE with muffs, grey legs, white on the bottom of the feet. 3. Rir? But with some...
