If you are like me, you want to plan how much you will be spending on your cute chicks ahead of time. First, to see how many you are able to get, and second to plan what you need to buy.
I found these pictures concerning, on average, how much each chicken will eat and weigh per week as a...
They will be completely fine if you pick them up. We pick our day olds up, even my 8yr old son. (They might squeal a little tho. It's just the shock, not a health thing.)
They will only die if you squeeze them very hard.
It is very good how they are acting... That is the sign for future...
Sneezing issues
I have a flock of week old Black Australorps. When I got them from our local feed store, one had been sneezing. Then two, and now all of them. Sometimes when they sneeze it is dry, other times a tiny bit of snot comes out. (Mostly dry)
Otherwise, they seem healthy. Active...
I have been taking them outside for 1/2 or a whole hour every other day... They are around 4 days old. The weather has been pretty warm... 65-80 degrees farenheit. They usually really like it. (They've only been out twice, lol.)
I have been feeding them medicated mash so far... The chicks seem...
Hi all!
I want to feed my chicks medicated long enough for them to be more cocci resistant, if that’s a thing. I thought I would switch them off of the medicated after a certain amount of time to limit the vitamin blockers.

Also, is mash...
I think that’s slow compared to York county pa! 125 birds GONE within 20mins. People are waiting in line hours before they get there. The Mill of Blackhorse/Bel Air/Hereford, etc. are putting limits on the chicks… thankfully Red Lion has not.
Buying them from here because they are much better...
I looked into the mail order thing from TSC. They didn’t promise any date that you’d get them. I think it would be much better to order straight from Hoovers or a different hatchery. That way you can at least know when they’re coming, and you’re not waiting until you get a random call mid august...
I'd say good job! As others said, there are not any pics or much paragraphing, but you obviously know your stuff, and in my opinion that's something you don't always find. It's good to know what meds to use, and you have definitly researched.
Besides, most people (at least me) read many...
We've all known the problem... Here is my experience and observations after treating half my flock, many of them more than once, for bumblefoot.
I had a flock of 19 chickens - 15 Hyline Browns (AKA Red Sex-Links), and 4 Barred Rocks.
Soon after we moved to the Eastern Shore (of Maryland), I...
