Hi! I have 12 hens and 9 have bumblefoot in both feet! I too live in Arizona and have decomposed granite in my yard. I am a crazy chicken owner and there is nothing in my yard or coop that can hurt their feet so I started to suspect the granite. Did you ever find out if that was the cause? Mine...
It’s not right now but I plan on covering it before it gets too hot. I think the shade will help with the temp of the sand but I really wanted to know if anyone in AZ has tried it.

Hi! I live near Phoenix and am just starting my flock. I’ve read that river or construction sand is the best for runs but I’m concerned the sand will be too hot in the summer months for their little feet. Does any one have any experience or advice? I’d GREATLY appreciate it!!
