I like in kansas and its getting pretty cold this week... one of my hens has done discoloration and I'm hoping its not frostbite...
Is frostbite deadly and should i be worrying? They fo have a heat lamp inside their coop
So i also checked their roost for splinters, there isnt any but there is a spot up high that they like to roost on too, whick i am blocking off.
This is the first one that i noticed... it is the worst one
So i think i will order the things to remove it without a scapel and when i do that i will...
Hello all and thanks for coming to my thread!
I have a small flock of 11 hens with
2 Barred plymouth rocks
2 golden laced wyandottes
1 smaller polish
and 5 rhode island reds
They are all a year old take or leave a few month and located with my grandfather, so really i only have a chance to see...
Yeah, Maple was great and she does miss Piper
This morning when it happened i put maple back in with the rest and buried piper real quick. When I came back, Maple jumped on the food bowl, and then to the top of their box and i saw her looking at me, and Piper's box😖
So sad news guys, Piper didn't make it through the night...
When I went into their cage this morning, she was on her back, with Maple still snuggled up against her. She didn't wake up.
To be honest, I'm suprised she lived this long
Thank you so much to everybody who helped me❤❤❤❤ and Piper...
Her trying to snuggle with the others which is why i put Maple in with her last night
Maple is now Piper's "chicken guardian" and continues to lay with her even outside!

Update:
So what i am beginning to think is that there may be something wrong with her leg that I didnt notice before...
Another thing is that -when they are outside- she always tries to go under the others and tries to lay with them...
And she chirps all the time
