At 4 wks weighing 1.5lbs. Sexond hatch 2 weeks old with more chicks and 3rd set going in bator thursday night. Got a bit busy with farming but will get more precise records on hatch 2 and 3. The birds are hatched red then develop a mahogony color with the cornish lacing, some darker than others...
I just hatched the first batch of my meat bird expiriment. The first crosses are a Dark Cornish Roo over Red Ranger, Pioneer, and Delaware hens. Had a great hatch and will be taking performance data starting tomorrow. My plan is to take #1 male crossed with #1 female. We shall see!
Personally i wouldnt fool with the 4-h because you have to be in 4-h, show your pen of birds etc. If you just want to be profitable and raise them get set up and order you 15-20 and advertise and find a market!
The 4-H auctions are for supporting the youth and putting some $ back into their next projects. Also, here anyway, its businesses that spend the big $ to make them look good.
Other than a 4-h auction you can be profitable if you put your time in and do your homework! Good luck!

I used an Arksen 48 egg circulated bator. Kept humidity at 40%. Temp stayed between 100-101, and had a bad storm and lost power for four hours on day 3 or 4.
Its my neighbors bator, and i have another batch in mine due wednesday.
