I had the same problem with mine last year when everything was new. The chickens never wanted to be in it even though I moved them from the brooder into the coup and kept them in there for a long time before letting them out. Anyway, they spent the next month living outside and roosting on the...
Well I just finished my first hatch ever. I am thrilled with the results. I set 24 eggs that I collected from my own flock and on day 19-20 I had 22 hatch! I never candled any of them and used the dry incubation method. There are still two eggs in the bator, but I am guessing they are duds. I...
Oh by the way...I've got some crossbreeds hatching as I type! White Rock roo and Buff Orpington, SIlver Wyandotte, RIR, and EE moms. So far they all look yellow.
Amazing! So after having several pips last night and still no hatches as of today, they started hatching fast and furious this afternoon! 3 hatched within ten minutes of zipping all at the same time. Then three more hatched just moments ago including the one that had its beak out since early...
WOW!! 3 chicks zipped and were out within ten minutes! The original one with the large hole is still inside and hasn't zipped. Maybe now that it hears the others it will be encouraged. I can't believe how much they flop around in there. It seems like they will break the other eggs. Does that happen?
So one egg now has a rather large hole where I can see its entire beak but it is not zipping. Does the zip need to go all the way around the egg in order for it to get out? I think I need to go watch some videos of hatching chicks!!
Excitement turned to worry. There are pips on six eggs since last night but no hatches. The pips are really small and the eggs still have movement but there is no progress. How long does it typically take to hatch after the first pip?
Hello, I have a gold laced wyandotte hen that has a hole in her skin on her back/side due to her being the roosters favorite. Should I give antibiotic orally or is it better to use some sort of cream? It is a fairly good sized tear and I can actually lift the skin away and see inside. Yuck! I...
Hello, I've got eggs in the bator for the first time ever and am on day 3! Anyway, I am just wondering if it is worth candleing them if I have no clue what I am doing? Doesn't it make the temp drop quite a bit taking them out? How likely is it that eggs would explode if I just let them go? Thanks!
