Introducing 3 month old chicks to existing flock of grown adults ~3 years old

I meant to respond directly to your question here. Copying and pasting from below. And also thank you for responding to my post :) I dont have exact dimensions for either coops right now but can measure once I get off work. The one the adults are in is smaller. A pre made one from TSC. Says it...

Introducing 3 month old chicks to existing flock of grown adults ~3 years old

I dont have exact dimensions for either coops right now but can measure once I get off work. The one the adults are in is smaller. A pre made one from TSC. Says it can hold up to 18 chickens not that its accurate. They lived happily together in it for years. In fact I had more hens but have lost...

Introducing 3 month old chicks to existing flock of grown adults ~3 years old

Hello everyone, I have 14 3-month-old chicks (1 rooster) that I am trying to introduce to my existing flock of 10 chickens around 3 years old. The older hens are a bit mean and pick on each other. 1 of them is so pecked over by the others she has multiple bald spots and her feathers look bad...

    Chicken laying weird egg

I think she has molted. Hard to tell. I have quite a few hens with bald patches from feather picking.

    Chicken laying weird egg

Thank you Tookie for the info. Is it weird that she is laying at night and on a roost?

    Chicken laying weird egg

Hi there, I went out to head count my hens before closing their coop up for the night and noticed an egg yolk laying on the floor underneath one of the hens perched on a roosting bar. When I looked up she had what looked like a thin translucent shell not formed hanging from her behind. I very...

    Rooster aggressive towards hen

Lat year I added 12 new chickens to my existing flock of 8. The 8 I had were all hens about 2 years old. One of the 12 new chickens I got ended up being a rooster (buff Orpington) to my dismay. He’s been ok so far, has not shown any aggression towards me. He’s left one of my other hens bare...

Can giving chicken too much water cause it to die

Thank you for your reassurance and words of wisdom. I surely hope I did not cause her demise. I noticed she had symptoms 2 days ago. On the second day she died. Would she have had nutritional deficiency after 2 days? Does cocci work this quickly? Or does it exist and multiply within the gut and...

Can giving chicken too much water cause it to die

Oh, I wasn’t aware of this. I was sitting just behind the chicken. She didn’t keep her beak open for very long so I don’t know in which direction the liquid went. Thank you for letting me know. I will keep this in mind if needed for future.

Can giving chicken too much water cause it to die

I hadn’t heard of flip over disease. I figured she was just panicking or having some sort of seizure. I don’t believe she had a crop issue going on but I’m not certain as I wasn’t familiar with the crop and the issues associated with it. Thank for your time and response.

Can giving chicken too much water cause it to die

I first filled an unused syringe with about 1 mL of corid. I now realize this may have been too much. I didnt think to calculate her weight for an accurate dose. I just wanted her to get better. I did also dilute some in water and that I did measure out for the rest of the flock. Then after I...

Can giving chicken too much water cause it to die

I orally gave one of my hens corid yesterday since she wasn't taking water. I gave her some water(about 6 mLs) to wash it down and keep her hydrated. She died shortly thereafter. My sister works at a vets office and she relayed what had happened to one of the vets and he told her that the...

Sick birds: something’s decimating my flock

I gave her corid orally since she wasn't taking water. I also squirted some water down her throat. My sister works at a vets office and she relayed the above story to him. He told her that giving a chicken too much water causing their stomach to rupture and that this is likely what killed her...
