Im not sure how or if he cut his toe. His toe has been messed up for a while but he got around fine on it. Im hoping the penecillin helps the infection but I don't know if it will solve the problem. I almost wonder if the tie needs to be removed, it might save him. The toe almost looks flat...
Have a 3 yr old lavender roo. Noticed him laying down today. He does not look well. I tried to stand him up and noticed him limping. He has a nasty looking flattened toe and another sore on a toe I believe he has an infection of some sort in the leg. I injected 1/4 cc of penicillin for...
It seems that the eggs with the questionable substance are only coming from 8 month old Australorp pullets. The rest of the flock do not seem to have this in their eggs so maybe the breed has something to do with it. Birds free range and have a locally produced non GMO mash.
I've noticed some of our eggs have a threadlike substance in the white of the egg. I am worried it could be a parasite but my wife thinks I am paranoid. If anyone could provide some insight on this I'd appreciate it.
No others are in coop. She started going broody in there so she imprinted to the coop. But other chickens were kicking her off her nest so we moved her to garage. Due date is 4 more days!
Hi we have an Easter egger that has been sitting well for 2 weeks. We have her separated and placed in garage with her clutch. The problem is that when she takes her bathroom breaks every few days she tries to return to the coop which is closed off.
We have to catch her and put her back on...
I keep going through heating elements in my 5 gallon waterer (using horizontal nipples). Would adding vinegar prolong the life of the element? We get some calcium build up on the element. It's my guess that is why they are breaking. I'm using the 250 watt aluminum stock tank de icer from...
How did your communal nest box work out for you? Our pullets just started laying and are laying them outside and on the coop floor instead of in nest boxes. I moved the boxes today towards a darker Corner to see if that helps. Still thinking of building a communal box.
I put one together recently. I used 2 90 degree sweep 3 inch with (cut). I then got small L brackets and used rivets to mount the sweep inside of the bucket. The install looks good and there is no chance of the sweep moving. I also did not feel confident that caulk would hold the sweep in...
Yes, I am fully aware eggs come regardless. I figured that actual breeding would indicate that egg production is near. The roosters have been chasing them for a few weeks but today the hen submitted, my first time observing this.
