Hi chick girl! I'm not sure in Michigan what your weather is or how old your chickens are but I'm in Ontario and have a small door for them to go outside anytime. Mine are a bit fussy at first because of the snow but once I spread a bit of straw they think, "well this just might do". The only time they don't go out is when its super windy and deep cold. Kathryn
