We live in relatively close proximity to our neighbors (our properties all join at the back corners right where our coop/run is). We have seven hens at the moment, have had them for a bit over a year now and so far no stink whatsoever.
I keep straw or hay spread out in the run to keep mud from...
Oh those are really beautiful birds! Congrats! Any pics?
Filed your list - hahaha! I am envious! I don't think I have enough land to fill mine, even if I turned my entire property into chickenville lol. But, with the plan of a couple of goats in the works, that won't be happening.
Wow! What a neat variety of birds you have! I hope the new development of the MDA inspector won't deter people from coming out to sell. I don't remember seeing hatching eggs there before (maybe I missed them) but that would be such a great addition!
I can't even bring my entire wishlist with...
That looks really nice! We also did our floors and partially up the walls. We ended up doing the roof too. So far it's held up perfectly and hoses off great! We did ours last Spring, and no issues thus far. Highly recommend this stuff, even with the difficulty stirring haha!
I'm reading this thread at works and cooing over the cuties! I want chicks so badly! I just don't have the room and I refuse to overcrowd my coop.
That being said, if anyone needs a chicksitter - I'm your gal! Thanks for sharing pics!
LOL!
So, umm... taking the eggs makes them "think their babies are disappearing", but eating said babies is somehow acceptable to mother hen. (Here's your sign)... vegans...
I do the same with a rolling bowl here. We get 6 or 7 eggs day from my seven hens and an empty black plastic Chinese food container sits by the sink every day to collect scraps. I just dump it into the run and let them all come flying out at it while I gather the eggs. The container fits them...
That's awesome! I don't like my co-workers or I'd bring them some too! Hahaha. ... ahem... That's not nice Katie.
The cartons I give to my MIL look similar though. She LOVES the blue-green eggs and even tells her friends they are "lucky eggs". She has started passing them out to her friends...
I went to this last year and definitely plan on going again this year! It was so worth it. I found my darling Black Copper Maran there, and I even saw someone selling an Ayam Cemani! I really want to pick up an olive egger this time round.
I am also from the Westminster area, so I am very familiar with Mt Airy. I have a mixed flock as well. I do not have a roo right now, but I would like to try my hand at hatching some time in the future. Sounds like a fun endeavor! Good luck with yours!
