    Baby quail deaths?

All chicks are around the same age, being hatched together in the same incubator with some variations in dates as it was a week with several hatches. I do not have a brooder I have one I made myself that I used for my previous quail chicks and I had no deaths. Yes it has a heat lamp on one side...

    Baby quail deaths?

This is my second round hatching coturnix quail but these babies are from my original quail. The first baby made it a couple days and then presented with bleeding around the nares and beak, I assumed since it’s in a brooder with regular chicks and button quail chicks that one of the other...

Why would my eggs be dying in lockdown?

For both chicks I can see the egg tooth directly under the air sac, they both were in position to hatch and the air was always right at the top, but 🤷‍♀️

Why would my eggs be dying in lockdown?

Tbh I am not sure of anything at this point other then that I haven’t changed anything since my previous successful hatchings, I’m simply stumped 🙁

Why would my eggs be dying in lockdown?

I often add an extra cup of warm water when they enter lockdown and when I top up the water I add warm water to bump the temp and humidity. Humidity is always bumped up the last week and the babies are fully formed so it doesn’t appear to be a genetic issue. There shouldn’t be a genetic trigger...

Why would my eggs be dying in lockdown?

They haven’t even pipped. Neither of them even got to the point of internally pipping which why I’m so confused. Visually there is nothing wrong with the chicks but they just never pipped. Membranes are not super hard to poke through either, not dried out. No oxygen seems likely since they never...

Why would my eggs be dying in lockdown?

hello experienced chicken friends, I have had zero problemos in the past (this spring 3+ rounds) hatching eggs in my incubator. However this time I’m hatching some of my own chicken eggs and I’m emotionally invested. I wrote dates on the shells so I know when I put them in and they’ve been...

Canada winter coop- designing my coop- Help!

I would also add that you should perhaps cut a smaller door just for the chickens to enter and exit and a way to close up those windows because once it’s -40 and blowing snow your babies will be COLD and chickens do not like snow or cold. I’m newish to chickens on my own but I know that growing...

Canada winter coop- designing my coop- Help!

I built mine with insulation inside the walls and I put up some vapour barrier with wall panels over top and added corrugated plastic on top (it’s cheap and it’s plastic so I can spray it down easy enough but haven’t needed to do so yet.) You could add some holes in the walls and put in small...

My chicken math journey led me here

Hello fellow feather and egg enthusiasts, Last spring I was innocently browsing Facebook and came across an ad for someone renting out 3 hens and a portable coop for the summer and was like wow that’s genius. Sign me up. Nope they sold out of all the chickas in 2.5 seconds so no rented...

    Looking for button quail

I too have been searching high and low but most places don’t want to ship to Canada or the eggs arrive in bad shape or really late and haven’t been able to get any to hatch yet! I’m personally in east ontario (Kingston) and the only luck I’ve had is eBay 🤔
