The vet thought it might be a soft tissue injury to his foot/leg and to keep an eye on him..that little bugger is 100% now!! He ate, drank and prgerssively got strong enough to be himself again! He also had his spurs trimmed so I'm sure that hellped too! Woohoo!!
Thank you for being there...
I woke up to hear Danielle's crow this morning! He was standing although a bit wobbly. He'll stand for a bit and then squat back down. Color still good, did open mouth breath for a few seconds but calmed down. Right now he's sitting quietly in the cage..I'm going to give him some water and see...
The panting has stopped. Color is still good. He bupped and clucked when I went to check on him last. If he can hold on til morning.:fl I'll try to find that Rescue Remedy at our health food store tomorrow..and I'll google it. Thank you for the suggestion!
Rescue Remedy? Never heard of it. We gave him some baby vitamins in his pedialyte. Maybe that will help until I can see the vet or get some of this Rescue Remedy. Would Walmart have it maybe? It's the only place open 24/7 around here. I'm beginning to think this might be Marek's. But he's 2.5...
Thank you! I've been doing just that...offering him peace and quiet with treats. He's in a dog crate in the guest room. He's beginning to open mouth breathe now and laid a turd that would shut your nostrils down. I wish I knew what to do or what this is!!! He's my love! He runs to me, he dances...
He ate some scrambled egg and pita bread out of my hands and he drank some Pedialyte. We put him in a dog crate in the guest room with water, a low fan (not on him, just near the cage for circulation) and some more egg/bread. I'm just praying he's ok til morning.
I love this bird!!! It kills me...
I wondered about a rapid cooldown in body temp as well. My DH said his wattles and comb were super hot but now they're more normal. HE's looking around the kitchen, still has good color, will bup when I've tried to get him to stand, but he will lower his head and close his eyes. I'm going to try...
Well, took a couple of bad pics before the freaking camera batteries died. Nice. Kodak EasyShare is the pits. He just pooped..it was a little watery with some white. There's no nasal discharge, no sneezing..nothing. He's just laying down, off balance if we try to get him to stand and his tail...
My 2.5 year old NHR rooster was perfectly normal when my DH got home tonight. DH said that when he got home Danielle came out of his enclosure, he ran out like normal and went over to the fence to see the hens on the other side like he does everyday. Then he went over to a bag of ice and lowered...
Mark..thank you..seriously. I've noticed that it's sometimes difficult to get answers on here, so thank you very much for your help. I don't think we can euthanize him ourselves..he's a very much loved pet chicken and taking him by our own hands would cause some serious mental damage. I don't...
We've done all that stuff..checked everything out..smelled him, checked his skin, etc., I just don't know what the heck is wrong with him. We're thinking of taking him to the Emergency Vet for euthanasia. If we take him up there for care they'll call in the specialist who charges $180 on top of...
Of course my chicken became ill ON the weekend AFTER a snow storm when the vet is closed.
He's a 2 yo bantam cochin. He's normally semi-aggressive, stays with the hens during the day, but prefers to sleep alone in a pet carrier at night. Yesterday my DH told me he wasn't in attack mode as he...
Oh no. They are turning white. It's nasty wether now but I'll try to get a photo of it. He started out with the black/dark green feathers and from the base to about half-way up, they are now snow-white!
