We had 5 BBB we originally bought as poults in March were going to harvest in November but the 3 males were already 40 # in September so we harvested them then saving the 2 BBB hens until Thanksgiving. Unfortunately 2 weeks ago a dog came in our yard when they were out free ranging and killed...
We butchered our 3 male BBB turkeys in September. they were about 5 1/2 months old. We didn't feed them any differently (no finisher food) they weighed in at between 29- 31 pounds dressed and had the normal amount of fat on them. They were free ranged for several hours a day also we didn't...
I think it's a normal pose for a hen that is ready to mate, Mine that are the same age and breed started doing that a couple weeks ago and this week they started laying small shell less eggs. Last week they were mating,Which I thought was unusual for this breed because what I've read is they...
Our BBB are the same ages as yours, 24 weeks in a couple of days. The females are laying down with wings spread because our 35# pound males are mating them. I know they are not suppose to be natural mater's because of their size but at least two of our 3 males mate and 2 of our hens just started...
Here in my Area (Western Washington) for ORGANIC turkey grower which has NO SOY and is 20.5% protein I pay $30.00 for 40 lb.,non organic fed is a lot cheaper. I have 5 BBB's(Broad Breasted Bronze) turkey's (3 Jake's and 2 hens) that get a 3.5 Qt scocp of feed in the morning and about 1/2 to...
In Washington State I see home raised fresh processed turkeys for sale anywhere between $6.99 and $7.99 a pound, I myself would not have paid that much, before I knew what all went into raising them for 5-6 months for the BBB variety. I pay $30.00 for a 40 # bag of Organic soy-free feed though.
That was my problem so now I've decided not to let my turkey hens set on eggs. If they would just go broody and incubate their own nests instead of switching back and forth or letting other hens add to their nest, so many are left unhatched that way.
For me the turkey grower and all their other food is whole grains and the stuff they leave behind (the fining's gets mixed with warm water on a tray with some cooked organic steel cut oats (for my chickens) and they gobble it down, so I have no waste, might try that if you have no other...
I am in the same situation as you. This is also our first year and am learning a lot through this site. I have breeding stock Easter Wild's and because my 3 hens keep laying in the same nest box it's hard to let the hen incubate them since others kept adding to her pile. That's how we ended up...

Forgot to add "what to look for" under the BYC "incubating and hatching eggs" title of thread"CHICKS are HERE* Egg candling pic's: progression through incubation"page 1 it shows you from beginning to end of day "0" to hatch day, but that is for chickens so you'll have to go to the chicken...
Update. I had one pip on the small side of the egg I tried helping but it hatched too early and when it pushed out of the shell the yolk wasn't totally absorbed. it lasted a few days but never did get up to walk, it was too weak. Had another that pipped but never progressed. while I was helping...
turkey number 4 has less hair on head, could be male but can't see the snood that well. Turkey number one has bigger carunckle's on neck so maybe in another month you'll know for sure
