I agree with you, the symptoms are worst that the one shown by our hen. We now have 3 more that are sick, they are not recovering as easily and fast as the first one, maybe it also depends on the breed? Not sure.
Just hang in there I have a couple of sick hens myself, you will see an improvement after 3 days. Mine started eating again on the third day and I gave her some tuna/shrimp cat food for high protein (you can find tiny portion in store), or I also made some mash by mixing layer feed with oat milk...
You can find the soluble version for birds online (Ebay but it comes from Ukraine and it can take over 10 days) search Tylan for birds, there is also the generic called Tylosin. A chicken lady in town gave the hint ;-) good luck.
Good news Wednesday, she was doing better. She had eaten a bit and actually sneaked out of the cage when I was grabbing the water container. We let her free range for about an hour than at darn we gave her some Nutri drench and the VetRX treatment.
Thursday morning I gave a some Tuna/Shrimp cat...
Thank you for the warning, since she hasn't laid any egg yet, I tried it thinking this could have been her issue. I won't bath her again. Looking for the Tylan, seems that the soluble recommended for chicken is only available with prescription (WTH). Tylon 200 Injection you can get at TSC...
She didn't really eat a lot yesterday, we gave her a bath with Epsom salt, gave her some Nutri Drench and rubbed a little bit of VetRX by her nose. This morning I checked her but couldn't feel anything in her crop it looked empty (but I'm no expert). She got up and started arranging her...
Hi, Thank you for your input. We add electrolytes to our girls water everyday during the summer to help them. I have not seen any injuries, but I'll check her again tonight.
This morning she drank but wouldn't touch the scramble egg I fixed her. She still has the raspy noise when breathing...
When checking on the flock tonight we noticed one of our hens being lethargic and not coming to greet me as they all do expecting a little tread before bedtime.
I try to offer her some worms, she pecked them but didn't eat any. I picked her up and noticed her breathing sounded rough. Also notice...
All ages sees each other at all times but are in separate pens.
We always wait for the younger ones to be around 17-18 weeks (close to the same size as the grown one) and let them interact with each other for another 2 weeks. Then one night we move the young one in the coop with the big one and...
I think that you're absolutely right. The spot that were light and yellowish earlier this week are now darker. I did see one or 2 spots last week but didn't really give it a second thought until I saw all the new spots earlier this week. I started researching the net (and this forum) and it...
Hi, I believe that our Rooster has Fowl Pox. We have planned to vaccinate our 10 weeks old chicks this weekend. After reading different posts, some older I'm still debating if I should vaccinate my 19 weeks old (not laying yet) and my grown hen. I would hate to loose more of my girls to the fowl...
