Fox proof - confused! For nights away

Thank you and you just named one of the last things on my to-do list (have random wire holding parts right now) - have heaps of the c clips and pliers, they just won't fit around the expanded mesh to clasp it. So must have to upgrade to larger C clips I think!

Fox proof - confused! For nights away

Have fixed up a couple of the wire clad places since and have more expander mesh - plus 70cm buried wire aprons all around (bar gravel).

Fox proof - confused! For nights away

Gosh it's been a minute but thankful for all your input - my ladies have been happily enjoying their new run and auto door for a couple of months now and it's SUCH peace of mind to be able to drive somewhere and not throw them in the coop if I'm taking my LGD with me. Some pic updates. There's...

Fox proof - confused! For nights away

Wondering if given there are sections where I'll have corr iron up to 1.4m high like this, do I still have to change the 1mm chicken wire above it? Not the roof, it will be sound. Just workshopping it all now

Yep good thought - I should do that anyway (cones) but will be a mainly hard roof when I'm done - maybe one or two sections hardware cloth securely battoned 👍

Got you - but that's not to hide the chooks as they obviously know they are there, but as an indication of effective height?

Fox proof - confused! For nights away

Yep the doorway has a large piece of mesh on/under ground and will be covered bottom to top with metal. I think I'll need to do a bottom wood lip over the wire where the bottom of the gate connects - keep from getting gate stuck in leaves etc. Ahh now I get it. Nope only a very small gap. But...

Fox proof - confused! For nights away

Good eyes oh yes the gate and above shed - that will be flush corrugated metal for that door. Oh thanks so much, very helpful. I can see myself sacrificing form for function quite a bit. I was hoping my kitty might take to the run for when maremma and I are away but though she free ranges with...

I'm glad you said that as powering through it is a key aspect to me getting it done 👍

Fox proof - confused! For nights away

Thank you kindly! I've been told from many that they are more active in the day - I'll have to get the wifi to reach there and watch on cam with my dog inside. There's been no fox evidence the last 7 months but I know they would watch for when dogs and I are away. That is very good to know about...

Fox proof - confused! For nights away

Hi there, My big white man and hard shed floor usually protect our ladies but I'm a new chicken owner and constructed things myself a bit higgledy piggledy - and looking for fox proofing for us to be away 2-4 nights on occasion. I'd coop them for 2 nights and they're under a huge shaded tree but...

    Australorp? Giant Jersey or? ..

Looks like we have historical Rhode islands in the heritage that have snuck through - thank you. Helped the breeder and myself. At least I know as first time chicken owner that I haven't done something horribly wrong.

    Australorp? Giant Jersey or? ..

Thanks so much. He has seemed the picture of perfect health so I was surprised at the suggestion - then looked through photos and realised the yellow was prominent. I think it might be the first (the mixed breed stock). I'm guessing it will therefore be quite hard to re-home them but I'm going...

    Australorp? Giant Jersey or? ..

PS I would have kept both as thought they are magnificent but whilst in tiny rural town it's technically township zone and Mrs Mangel 800m up the road would have a field day - already sends local laws around for my managed maremma every month.

    Australorp? Giant Jersey or? ..

Hi there. Had two sexed 16 week old pullets and both ended up cockerels (now about 28 weeks). The breeder took them back to attempt rehoming and swapped with a couple of Sussex but thinks the light grey is sick because of the yellow tones (beak and legs) - whereas it's always been like that for...
