I will def take pics.
You're just like us...we couldn't wait for a broody mama and incubated. Now to our surprise and bonus we have a broody girl!!
Since all Silkies choose a different age to lay their first eggs and go broody, may I ask, "How old are your hens?"
I hope you waited a...
I admit I don't spend enough time on backyard chickens trying to help some "newbies". I was a lost and somewhat panicked "newbie" with chickens and incubation not long ago. I gotta say that I was actually disappointed at either the lack of information or the lack of consistent info available on...
We got eleven babies from our incubator and then our hen, Sookie, decided she felt like sitting on a buncha eggs!! ....( a couple day accumulation from all 5 of our hens). Not sure how many are under her....could be as many as 8 or 9 ?!!. She has been sitting on them diligently for about 12 days...
Very informative response above mine here. Kudos to you "The Chickeneer". It's the first time I found a good answer to that question.
Also, I totally agree with you about chicken addicts. I have never been addicted to anything unhealthy...I even limit my sugar intake to minimal amounts. They...
Adorable!!
Our six eggs are on day 6 in the incubator. After candling tonight we decided that there was such minimal development in one of them compared to all the others that we removed it. We have 6 more now that we will start incubating tonight.
Well...she pulled the other four eggs back in and added a sixth, but she still wouldn't sit. We put the six in an incubator cuz we simply can't wait to see our first babies from our first hens. Maybe she will wanna sit on another batch in the near future.
Thanks.
We have one bantam silkie splash hen who is nearly 6 months old. She began laying a few weeks ago. (She is also the fave of many of our roosters and we are 100% sure all her eggs are fertilized. lol). We saved her last four eggs and put her in a separate area with a specially built...
I think you're lucky to have broody hens. I am hoping one of my five hens will go broody asap. I can't wait to have a mama with her babies. We started with 20 eggs for incubating and after some not fertile, some not hatching, one deformed, one with a serious eye issue, one that wouldn't grow...
All my hens are wonderful. A couple of them have been a bit more timid than the others, and they've wanted to stay close by me, but not be picked up and cuddled. Lately they're becoming more comfortable with me cuddling them and I'm thrilled. This past Wed. and Thurs. we had snow/ice/freezing...
She's adorable! Love her name!
I have two partridges. One of them looks a lot like yours except that her head is dark brown. Please check out the pic of her, "Wally" lol, and her sister, "Scooter Pie", and a few others that I added into my profile. Scooter (a.k.a. Swirly cuz every day she...
So sweet of you to reply and tell me about your little chickies.
Sorry I've been ill and haven't been on here to respond. My BF is always checking out the new coop pics though. He's always looking for more ideas on how to improve ours when I know it's already perfect...and I keep telling him...
Hi everyone!
I'm a total newbie with chickens. I saw some Silkies at my local zoo in mid-May and fell madly in love! I researched as much online info as I could possibly find, purchased some eggs on ebay, and recieved some Silkie eggs in the mail on May 31st. 17 of the 20 were fertile and all 17...
