    Prolapsed vent on chick? Help!

Does the coconut oil need to be chilled or just in a solid state? Or does it matter either way? She is drinking good but I can put some water in their feed as well to make sure all of them are getting enough. One of the others had pasty butt as well but it cleared up after two washes, the other...

    Prolapsed vent on chick? Help!

If I need better pictures let me know, I may be able to have someone help me take some. It was too difficult for me to try and take photos while holding her by myself, she's a lively little one and very against being restrained

    Prolapsed vent on chick? Help!

I have a 5 day old chick with what I think is a prolapsed vent. She is very active and eating and drinking but she strains to poop, is walking stiffly, won't lie down, and keeps messing with her vent area. She was very lively and active when she first arrived but then started getting pasty butt...

    Lethargic Limp Chick

Yeah, she's passed now 😢 so heartbroken to lose two chicks on such a small order (7 chicks, one was DOA). Ugh. This was my first time getting chicks shipped but I think next time I'll opt for the 4.5 hour drive to the hatchery.

    Lethargic Limp Chick

Hello, I picked up my chicks this morning from the post office. I ordered them from Meyer Hatchery, they shipped on the 7th and got here today. One was very lethargic on arrival and I have been trying to nurse her to health but she keeps getting worse. She is completely limp now, eyes closed...

    Help Identifying Breeds

Hello! I just got my order in today from Meyer Hatchery. I ordered 7 chicks total; 2 Frizzle Easter Eggers, 2 Green Queens, 2 Polish (one white crested blue and one gold laced), and 1 free mystery chick. All female. I was able to identify for sure the Polish chicks (one was DOA 😭), but I am...

Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

My chickens couldn't care less about the snow. I always keep the pen door open in the day so they can free-range and there they were crossing the yard in 6+ inches of snow 😂 they lost their free-range privileges for now though, as last night I had to go on a search for one of my roosters and a...

Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

Hello! I was reccomended to try this thread. I am from the south-east area of Michigan, south of Flint. I am currently trying to rehome now three roosters! They are all mixed breeds but very pretty birds. They were all hatched on 7/12 this year. In order of their photos we have a beautiful black...

    Rehoming Two Roosters in Michigan

I am in the south-east area of Michigan, needing to rehome two young roosters. They came from a "barnyard mix" of chicks so exact breeds/mixes are unknown, however I do know the black one is a silkie mix since he has the extra silkie toe, and the black/white one is barred rock, possibly mixed...

    Crowing "Hen"?

Yes! He is doing wonderfully. He has grown some beautiful saddle feathers and seems to have almost doubled in size. He also of course got up to a very healthy, hefty weight, so you no longer just feel bone when you hold him. My friend who found him has named him Chicken Joe.

    Crowing "Hen"?

We originally thought "she" may have gotten separated from the flock by a predator or something and that "she" was simply a missing chicken. Makes more since for him to be a dumped cockerel though. I'm glad he was found by the right person who knew the right people that would drive all the way...

    Crowing "Hen"?

Nice to know! He doesn't have any if the male traits I am familiar with and without knowing his age it was difficult to determine. Rescuing was a fun thing to do, I'm hoping he warms up to us and gets a little friendlier towards people, but even if not he's still found a loving forever home 🥰

    Crowing "Hen"?

Yeah, thanks for the insight! I haven't had a rooster before so I'm not well-versed in recognizing one. I've been wanting one for a while so I wouldn't be opposed to it being a boy :]
