Hi all, I'm new here and I'm in Boise.
We're new to the chicken game. We got 6 hens about 6 months ago but I think there was a miscommunication with the guy we got them from and now we are down to 2 of those 6 (3 died of old age....they were supposed to be young).
Over the last 2.5 months...
Well, shoot. I was holding out hope because even though they both have similar comb and wattles, one of the them is a bit smaller and oranger and because the one with the oranger comb doesn't have as much white on him than the other one. Here are some pictures I just took today. I think it's...
Are both of these cockerels? We got three Silver Wyandottes straight run. One was killed by a neighbors dog and I was hoping that one of the remaining 2 would be a pullet but I don't think it's looking good. What do you all think? They are about 10 weeks old in these pictures.
Thanks everyone. We do free range during the day (they have about 1/2 an acre). At night, they all go into the same coop (it's big, used to be an outdoor shed/storage building that we made into a coop). We'll see how it goes. After posting pictures on here and asking for others to help...
Oh, so if it doesn't have a comb and wattle it's a hen and if it does, it's a rooster? Is that correct?
Looks like I'm gonna have a lot more roosters than I originally thought. It looks like my 2 Silver Wyandottes are roosters too. So, that's 6 roosters out of the 7 straight run chicks that...
Shoot, I was hoping one of them was a hen. We have 17 chickens that are about 2-3 months old and if these are both roosters, then that puts us at 5 roosters out of the 17 chickens. We are only planning on keeping 1 or 2 roosters at this point.
