Fowl pox and ear infection - 8 month old pullet

I have an 8 month old salmon favorelle pullet who hasn't been feeling well since maybe yesterday. I looked her over on Sunday and she was fine, but had little waxy looking stuff by her one ear. Today, her whole ear area is swollen and her eye is gross. The stuff around the eye does not look...

    Ear Infection?

I'm going to try this tonight. My poor favorelle has what looks to be an ear infection. No respiratory symptoms.

    8 month old Silkie

That might be a cockerel, but I'm not really sure. Silkies are weird. I have one too and have no idea the gender. We think ours is female, but will not know for sure unless she crows or lays eggs.

Hen Laying Song But NO Eggs

My light brahma has been in a state this morning, screeching and pacing around. She just hopped on top of the coop and keeps singing the egg song. No egg yet, but we do keep checking because her behavior this morning is different. She has always been loud and now she's really loud. I'm glad all...

    23 weeks. Nooooo eggs

I'm in the same boat. Mine are 22 weeks this week. The only one looking ready to lay soon is one of my brahmas. I really thought they would be last to lay.

    Mesh Buried Underneath Run

For my run, I made an apron that extends out 2ish feet on all sides. It is heavy gauge chicken wire with vinyl over the top. I am going to eventually put down something heavier duty, like cattle fencing. We have a stray dog problem here as well as a raccoon problem. The raccoons have yet to...

How do you all “examine” your chickens? Just wondering

I make it a point to pick up each chicken at least twice a week and check over their bodies for injuries, bugs, etc. I observe each one daily for behavior changes and interact with them as often as possible.

4 week old Rhode Island Reds gender?

They both might be. I have one RIR and he is a cockerel. He looked a lot like those two when he was a month old. He is now about 9 weeks and has a huge comb and wattles. He came out of a pullet bin too.

    Hardware cloth shortage

That sucks. We are not allowed to shoot the bears here, and unless they hurt someone fish and wildlife won't do anything about them either.

    Hardware cloth shortage

I'm not the OP, but have had the same issue. I have thick gauge cattle fencing along with 2 layers of good quality vinyl coated chicken wire securing my run. It has so far survived multiple large raccoons, a bobcat, and opossums. We are in the process of setting it up with electric fencing...

    Shrieking Australorp

My Betty is like that. She's a light brahma. I was in the run earlier and she was yelling up a storm. Now our salmon faverolle is doing the same, just not quite as loud.

    Pullet or cockerel?

She looks like a carbon copy of my barred rock pullet. :love

    Pullet or Roo?

Sweet! I would not have minded a roo, but I'm glad they were labeled correctly.

    Pullet or Roo?

I picked up two barred rocks from a pullet bin at Rural King like 2 months ago. This one here I'm really questioning whether it is a roo or not based upon behavior alone. This one and the larger one are similar in color. They are about 12-13 weeks old with the larger being at least a week older

    12w silkie

I have a 12 week silkie, but mine is so much smaller than yours. Mine has no comb or wattles. Yours looks like a small version of my neighbor's silkie roo, but I think for you it's maybe too early to say. Cute chicken either way :)
