Update: The vet confirmed today that they have coccidiosis and I have administered their medication so hopefully they will improve over the next couple of days.
For anyone following along, their symptoms were: fluffed up appearance, inability to walk or stand up, sleepiness, decreased appetite...
Update: The two remaining ill quail have not changed. still eating + drinking a bit but just sleeping, not moving around. From the remaining flock of 8 that weren't showing symptoms, the smallest one has now started to display symptoms as well and I will move them into the sick bay brooder soon...
Just an update: I have been feeding them with sugar water + electrolytes and some mushed up watery food with a syringe including a few times overnight. One in particular was really reluctant to swallow anything and this morning it died. The two others have started eating and drinking by...
Not throwing its' head back, more like shaking, I guess seizure is the best word I can think of. It's stopped now. I'm worried that if they got too hot overnight, it's been most of the day now and the've made no improvement. I've been giving them wet mushed up food and sugar water from a dropper...
If it is heat stress, how long would they take to recover from this once no longer exposed to the same heat? I have hydralyte here, which is an effervescent electrolyte tablet for humans, do I need a poultry specific product though? One of them has just started convulsing a bit like it's having...
I really don't think so. They aren't panting or gasping or drinking water. There's plenty of opportunity to move away from the heat if needed. They'd been keeping the same sort of distance at the rest of the flock.
Thank you for the information. I'll just keep hand feeding them and hope that they improve for now. I'll be more concerned if the rest of the flock start showing symptoms. The four that are unwell are the smallest of the flock, I wonder if they are more susceptible because of this. Maybe I...
Part of their brooder is wire mesh so, I can see lots of poop but can't be certain what poops are from the sick quail (except for the one in the photo, it's the only one since I separated them earlier today). Do you have any idea what else it could be? I don't want to see them all follow in the...
I read that it's not effective for quails in a study I found online and when you look at the product page where you can buy Amprolium, quails aren't listed as a bird you can treat with this. If that isn't the cas, I'd love to know. I got a poop from the separated quail. It looks pretty normal.
