    23 ducklings in one clutch?!

At least he's with them again and safe from any more harm. I was really getting used to his eager little face looking up at me for his seeds each morning. They're so innocent and trusting at that age. As soon as he saw me slide open the window he's quickly waddle towards me with a happy look on...

    23 ducklings in one clutch?!

That was Mama. A few days ago her right eye looked watery and she was keeping it closed. I've seen them many times with white foam around their eyes but this wasn't that. She was just keeping it closed and it looked all teary. The next day she looked fine again though. Only Mama came this...

    23 ducklings in one clutch?!

Here's Mama. She sat there by herself until the sun went down tonight. She's probably thinking of all the luxury baths and peaceful naps she can take now without that pesky little duckling always hanging around. I hope she doesn't have another brood again.

    23 ducklings in one clutch?!

I think he's gone. Mama came back again and sat down under the window until sunset but baby never came and he's always here right before dark. Either he got so spooked by this mornings traumatic experience and fled or he got caught by a predator somewhere. I know that was him this afternoon...

    23 ducklings in one clutch?!

Mama was just here but no baby. She sat down under the window for a while and then crossed the pond alone. I know that was him down by the park earlier because I saw him walking so i'm hoping he's still alright. Boy what a mother this one is. And to think she was raised by an expert like Grandma.

    23 ducklings in one clutch?!

Baby is fine!! :yesss: They're still far away and I wasn't sure if it was a rock next to Mama or baby, but then he got up and started walking!! I zoomed in as much as my cheap phone allowed but you can see him sitting to the right of Mama. After I snapped the pic I saw him get up and walk...

    23 ducklings in one clutch?!

Right now I can see them across the pond all huddling together under bushy trees. It's way too far away to see if duckling is with them and for the moment I think they're all afraid to venture out. So i'm going to be wondering all day about this duckling's fate. Mama's kids are way too big...

    23 ducklings in one clutch?!

A few minutes after eating all of a sudden all the wildlife scattered away from the patio....the crows, ibises and wood storks flew so quickly away as if they were startled by something. Even my parrot screamed and flew into the house. Then I saw two big eagles circling above. All the ducks...

    23 ducklings in one clutch?!

Duckling was waiting for breakfast this morning without Mama. She was off bathing at the other end of the pond basking in luxury while her poor baby fends for himself. Such a self centered duck lol. Shame on her. Grandma's kids try to bully duckling but he nips at them and fights right back...

    23 ducklings in one clutch?!

I believe she's from Grandma's clutch of either last year or 2021 but i've never seen her with ducklings before so it's quite possible this is her first hatch. I remember when she was a baby. She was the only one of the brood who would fly into the water after the bread when I threw it over...

    23 ducklings in one clutch?!

Mama is still with him (i'm pretty sure it's a male at this point) but he's understandably a nervous little guy so as soon as he finishes eating under the window he waddles straight down for the water with the crows following and nipping at him lol. I'm pretty sure they're doing it playfully and...

    23 ducklings in one clutch?!

Duckling came back this morning but never made it up to the patio for his food. A crow began chasing him up and down the shore until he scurried into the water to get away from it. I couldn't tell if it was just being playful or if it was something more sinister. I doubt the crow would see him...

    23 ducklings in one clutch?!

She is! Look at the sight I was just greeted to when I stepped outside. I tried to be real quiet to get the pic but Mama's eyes opened accusingly just as I snapped it. So adorable. Guess they were waiting for their lunch which they both got.

    23 ducklings in one clutch?!

Still here this morning! The little one prefers seeds to bread which is good since it's better for him. He vacuumed it all up and went quickly back to the water waiting there for Mama to finish, and she went back to him after eating and they swam over to the park together. I guess it's safer...

    23 ducklings in one clutch?!

He really is an independent one. After he finishes eating he fearlessly runs down to the water to drink and float around while Mama stays here eating. I think with so many ducks out there with Grandma's giant flock, he safely blends in among them all. Hopefully this can help him to evade...
