    Chriscat from NC

Hi from NC! (1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens? I've had chickens since I was a kid. We had to sell our farm and move for a new job, so I was without them for about 10 years. About 2 years ago I started another flock. (2) How many chickens do you have right now? 35...

Board of Trustees Meeting July 6th

We had our meeting tonight and it went well. I brought in pictures of our coop and pics of the breeds we kept to soften them up. Silkies and Bantam cochins...who could help but love them? I also brought ordinances from as many cities across the U.S. that I could find that allow chickens. We...

Board of Trustees Meeting July 6th

I asked the village clerk for the a copy of the ordinances, and she pulled out a loose leaf notebook a couple of inches thick, lol! She photocopied this for me: 3-1-8 ANIMALS IN VILLAGE (A) Certain Prohibitions. Except as otherwise provided in this Chapter, no person shall keep within...

Board of Trustees Meeting July 6th

As you may have read in the For Sale or Trade forum, someone in our small town of 530 turned me in for having chickens. I was wrong in assuming that because the bigger city just to the north of us, Decatur, IL allows chickens, that our small farm town would allow them too. I received a letter...

Comparing the Topsy Turvey tomato planter with my other tomato plants.

My husband put two on the front of our shed...the first tomatoes on one of them had blossom end rot and I had to throw them away before they ever ripened. The new ones coming on now look great. I've got about 15 more tomatoes in my garden box that look great, but no tomatoes coming on yet. I...

So Sad...Chickens have to go. I've got ten days. Central IL--SOLD

Happy Ending...sortof. I had a local family with two handicapped children contact me yesterday. They wanted to buy the chickens and tractor for their children to use as a 4-H project. They came over last night and picked them up. They were such a nice family...I was really happy to know that...

So Sad...Chickens have to go. I've got ten days. Central IL--SOLD

I wasn't clear...I don't live in Decatur, I live in a small town southeast of Decatur. I wasn't going to name it, but what the heck. It's Dalton City.

So Sad...Chickens have to go. I've got ten days. Central IL--SOLD

I'm sure this is residential only. It's the newest (and only) subdivision here in this tiny little town. I never meant to have roosters anyway. I bought eight chicks, and got five roos. I kept hanging on to them, because when I posted their pictures, everyone thought for sure they were hens...

So Sad...Chickens have to go. I've got ten days. Central IL--SOLD

Update: I went up to the Village Clerk's office and asked for a list of the city ordinances. She pulled out a loose leaf folder that was about 3" thick! It took her a while to find the ordinance about chickens, but she printed out the page that she thought was relevant. This is how it's...

So Sad...Chickens have to go. I've got ten days. Central IL--SOLD

I've tried looking online, and the only information I could find was about Decatur. I'll just head over to the Village Hall tomorrow and talk to the Village Clerk. I can tell already that I'm not going to like living in town, lol.

So Sad...Chickens have to go. I've got ten days. Central IL--SOLD

I'm in the US, and our town is so small that it's considered a village. The main street has a huge grain elevator, a bank, a pizza place, post office, and a restaurant and that's about it. We're a few miles south of Decatur, IL, where it's perfectly legal to have chickens in town. The houses...

So Sad...Chickens have to go. I've got ten days. Central IL--SOLD

It's from a legitimate law office...I checked it out, but agree that it's poorly written. I'll contact the Village Clerk tomorrow and see what, if anything, can be done. I believe that she's the one that would have contacted the lawyer in the first place. I should also be able to get a list...

I have 2 different friends in a nearby town with chickens, and I just assumed that because this town was so small and rural, that it would be ok. It's my fault for not finding out about the ordinances. We asked our neighbors first, to make sure no one minded, but apparently someone must have...
