Just a note on DE diatomaceous earth (food grade)
Don't breath too much or it can give a person a allergy type reaction .
But it's good for many things chicken based .
I use (DE) diatomaceous earth [food grade) dries up everything that would cause a stink .
I clean my Coop and run bi-weekly and I avoid the stereotype smells that are associated with chicken raising.
"A clean coop makes happy chickens and happy chickens make happy eggs"
Have you checked for sour crop ?
Just a thought , I had one girl who sort of acted the same as you described .
I managed to nurse her back with some simple steps over a 2wk period .
This is just a question on the importance of deworming chickens
I have 4 barred rock pullets around the age of 7+ months , I have never used a dewormer on them and was wondering if anyone could tell me if there is a more natural way compard to the chemical ways that is just as sufficient ...
4 barred rocks , 4 eggs daily for 2 weeks straight.
But is starting to heat up again so we'll see if the production dies down and the soft shells happen again
My 4 barred rocks give me 4 a day , sometimes 3 but most of the time 4 .
Funny thing today i got 4 eggs and this evening one dropped a softy on the patio , so I'll expect 3 tomorrw.
They're only going on 7 months and the weather has been hot until today dropped from high 90s low 100s now to...
One day into the heat i found a soft shell in the run along with this tiny egg , thought it could be from multiple birds bit after work that day there were 3 eggs in the nesting boxes. Really small egg .like a dove egg but hard as a rock
Update , as the temperature dropped the egg production betterd the pullet that was laying soft eggs managed to lay a hard shelled egg , but it was deformed "but hard" i had two solid days of laying 4 birds 3-4 eggs a day.
