Yeah, I know. I used to have Seramas, which I loved, but they aren't very hardy, so I thought these little guys might be a good fit. I'm allergic to chicken eggs, so I don't care a whole lot about egg size. I'm just wondering how active/good they are at foraging.
I've been eyeing hatching eggs on eBay. Does anyone know how these guys are free ranging? Are they good, active foragers? I like them a lot, but I want them to do a good job scratching through my horse manure piles to keep the flies down.
Yeah, I've found that's the case with other groups or message boards I'm on. Everyone is moving to FB, Instagram, Twitter, etc.
Bottom line: I would probably get more than one pair from Holderread to be on the safe side. There's no guarantee you'll find any somewhere else, although yes, I'm...
I understand how important genetic diversity is, I just don't think he's going to have a lot of luck finding it.
What did you cross with his mini Sebs (just out of curiosity)?
But...they all came from Holderread who created them. I just don't think there are enough out there that you're going to find much genetic diversity regardless of where you get them from. I don't know. Maybe I'm wrong, but I don't think there are a whole lot of them around.
I think they all came from Holderreads, so I'm not sure how much good that's going to do you. Your best bet might be to ask them for an unrelated (or as unrelated as they can be) pair.
Something got into my pen and killed my quail. The chukar are fine. The quails' heads were chewed off. Would rats do this? It has to have been something small. I thought maybe a mink or weasel would be possible, too, but it seems like they would've done more damage? Not sure, though. I...
I think squirrels are primarily herbivores, but may eat meat or eggs if they're hungry. I would never leave tiny ducklings alone, though, because if the squirrel doesn't get them, something else will.
Also...this may get removed. It's in the buy/sell/trade section. You should post in the...
I have the same incubator and I dry incubate all the time. I have better results that way. In fact, I just accidentally dry hatched Valley quail a few days ago (these are my first quail, I usually hatch waterfowl or chickens). I think it might depend on the humidity where you live. I live in...
