    Broody Coturnix?

Is this true of all domestic quail, then, or just Coturnix?

    Broody Coturnix?

Hi all, We have raised both laying hens and broiler chickens, and now we are interested in giving Coturnix quail a try. From what I've seen it's very difficult to breed and brood naturally, but we would prefer not to buy an incubator. Ideally we would like to keep a few breeding pairs to raise...

    Processed Cornish Crosses today

Just some info and pictures for those who may be interested. This was our first time processing meat birds, and first time raising them start to finish. We started with six Cornish X chicks. Two had to be processed at six weeks due to a dog situation. The other four were processed today, two...

    Processing a wounded chicken

Thanks, LIG. We did process the second bird. After closer inspection he ended up having a broken wing, and I didnt want him to suffer. The meat from both seemed fine, there were no bites or such to the bodies. Good enough for soup, anyway.

    Processing a wounded chicken

My very determined Bull Terrier got into my pen of Cornish Xs today. I thought my pen was secure but she pulled the chicken wire out of the staples and got through :( Two of my six birds were injured. They are six weeks old tomorrow, definitely old enough to eat. One was clearly seriously...

Started processeing my 27 cornish X's

At four weeks these birds probably weigh as much as our twenty week birds did, so it should be an interesting...

    Moving Cornish X chickens outside

Hi all, I have six Cornish X chicks that turned a month old on Thursday. I'm in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area, and we are having a bit of a crazy spring here. Daytime temps for the next ten days will be in the 70s, but nighttime temps will be in the 40s and 50s. The chicks are almost completely...

    EE pullet or not?

Thanks, all. We had strong suspicions that the first chick is a boy, too. Now to get my seller to see that.

    EE pullet or not?

Hi all, We bought a couple of EE pullets today to add to our small flock. It's our first experience with this variety, and I was wondering if one of them doesn't show signs of being a roo? They are around 14-15 weeks old, hatched Oct 26. I don't know how apparent saddle feathers would be at...
