    Red clay poop

I did change the scratch! Maybe that’s it. I don’t mind the color if it’s not a bad sign

    Red clay poop

It’s been going on for 2-3 days. Nothing out of the ordinary. Same feed and same backyard foraging

    Red clay poop

Any idea what causes poop to look like red clay? Otherwise healthy poo other than the disturbing color. Wondering if I should be concerned. All my hens are acting healthy but I know they can camouflage a lot of illness.

Hatching with broody hen, remove chick?

So only today when I got home one egg was chirping and the chick was starting to peck to get out, no hole yet. I think we only have two viable chicks in the eggs, this is one. I put it under the hen again, and she seems thrilled. She started gathering all the shavings around her again. Is it...

Hatching with broody hen, remove chick?

Looks like she’s broken her bloodiness. She was out eating and had her chick with her. Urgent run to TC now for an incubator.

Hatching with broody hen, remove chick?

She saw a YouTube video about hatching store eggs. I think she may be off eggs for life now lol

Hatching with broody hen, remove chick?

Thank you. This sounds like a very low stress route for my hen. Sadly all the other hens have taken to bullying her when she would emerge for food. I have her in my isolation pen currently with a nesting box.

Hatching with broody hen, remove chick?

Unfortunately or fortunately none of my other hens have been broody.

Hatching with broody hen, remove chick?

Ok I think it’s time to go buy an incubator. We actually lost the rooster (RIP), so I was avoiding that purchase since it’s a one time hatch. But sounds like this staggered hatch is going to be a mess! There are only 5 other eggs. I’ll candle them first. May need to post pics. The egg that...

Hatching with broody hen, remove chick?

Have a first time broody silkie sitting on clutch I left alone for first week+. Meaning I don’t know what day every egg is on. Many hens laid in her box. I’ve never had a roo before so this is our first hatch. Well one hatched yesterday. Today I went out to check on them in her separate pen. All...

    Silkie roo?

Well if we had to get our first Roo at least it’s a silkie! I wouldn’t know what to do with a more assertive breed. Btw I just saw him run up and peck a pullets bottom. Thank you for the reply!

    Silkie roo?

Thanks! Yes I was referring to letting the littles be unsupervised so soon after meeting the big hens. It happened about a week after introductions. Two of my older road island reds attacked her early in the morning before I let them out into the larger run. Age I can only estimate 8-10 weeks...

    Silkie roo?

I’m guessing around 8-10 weeks? The woman I purchased her from didn’t tell me but she was in with the smaller pullets and that was 5 weeks ago.

    Silkie roo?

This little guy/gal was pretty viciously attacked a month ago by two hens (I learned my lesson mixing sizes!). Basically spent several weeks recovering a crushed foot and large side wound so growth has been stunted during that process. Happy healthy growing chicken now. Pretty sure our pullet...
