No I didn't. It seemed to have resolved itself too, if I remember right. It is the same time of year that mine did this. Are yours last springs chicks? I would bet it is a molting issue or lice issue just due to the time of year. Good luck.
So when I got the Tom I put them together in my small brooding area. Also I was told he was a wild turkey but he is very large. Probably about 30 lbs. I moved them into a new pen away from the chickens and the hen kept escaping back to the chicken coop to lay her eggs. Then when she went broody...
I have a Wild turkey hen that I was keeping with my chickens all winter. She started laying eggs mid winter. I got her a Tom and almost as soon as I put them together she went broody. She laid a few more eggs and then quit and is now sitting on nothing. Her eggs were not fertile. So my...
So I have 30 eggs in the incubator and this morning I was supposed to get them out of the turner and into lockdown for hatch day of May 7th. BUT...as I was getting ready to do this my son yells "Mom the ducks have hatched". I have 2 ducklings already hatched and 11 more eggs pipped. This is my...
Yes, like you, I checked my BCM the day I noticed feathers missing, I only checked the vent area but I havn't treated my birds for lice in a long time. I will do that tonight.
I have had this happen from a young rooster learning how to mount. A lot of roos grab the back of the head right there to mount. Not sure if they outgrow this. My old man roo doesn't grab the back ot the head but all the young ones I've had do.
SO here are pictures of a few. This morning when I went down my rooster is missing feathers now too, and he had these adorable wispy feathers on his cheeks almost like whiskers. Any ideas from anyone? I am going to go feed them some fish this afternoon. I have an 8X8 coop with a covered run...
Yeah that is initially what I thought since my BCM is a pretty big girl and my roo is a new guy(but not small) But then I noticed my Faverelles missing feathers on the under side of her neck, chin area. I will try to get some pics this morning & post them.
So I have had several friends who have complained of feather picking that resulted in naked necks. A few days ago I noticed my BCM hen was missing a bunch of feathers on her neck, tonight I counted 5 birds w/ bare necks. I am hoping that someone out there can tell me if it is feather picking...
Your hen will be just fine and so will her chicks. I live in Alaska and have had hens brood chicks in January. It gets well below zero here. I always put them in their own room of the coop too and let them be. You will be amazed at how hardy the little chicks are and they are not dumb they...
As long as it is only his spur that is injured and not his foot or joint, he should heal just fine I think. My rooster seems to actually pick his spurs off once a year when they get too long and then they just grow back like a toe nail. They do bleed. Good luck and maybe someone else on here...
