The like their roosts a bit too much. I think the answer is that we have to move the roosts from the outdoor "run" area to the covered and protected area - at least until they learn to stay in the protected area for when the rains come here in southern AZ.

They sit on roosts that are in the open - protected by very strong chicken fencing but no roof. Their nesting area is totally protected on 3 sides by wood so we "assumed" they would cozy up in there. My neighbor has chickens and they know to go into their nesting area when the sun goes down...
We were thinking of that or barb wire. We bought the very tight fencing so, although it was shredded, it did not break through. Husband put another layer where it was compromised and installed a remote light to, hopefully, dissuade intruders. I will TRY to post a pic tomorrow. Company coming...
Was hoping for advice for my 4 silly girls who roost in the open at night when it is cold or raining (like now) rather than going under shelter. There is lots of shelter provided yet they seem to want to roost in the open. We had a mountain lion attempt to get them by shredding the heavy wire...
Wear long pants for whenever you go into the coop. I do because one really pecks me and I am thinking I may have to switch to jeans, which are thicker. Then I will try ignoring her to see if that works. Good luck.
