Thank you I didn't understand the 2 fingers or 4 fingers part very well but I'll try it on some and see if I can get a feel for it. And if they're still laying, even if I check them at night, their vent should look moist? Very interesting, I've never even thought to look it up as I never cared...
Hello! I bought a lot of new pullets last year and this year. Last year despite having around 35 hens at any given time, I was only getting 4 to 14 eggs per day. I realized that a lot of my hens are pretty old. So I decided to try to figure out which ones are spent. It's been my experience that...
Wait, I think I get it, if they really are Easter Eggers as opposed to just mixed breeds, then I should be getting greenish or bluish or pinkish eggs, whereas if I buy just the mixed breed, I might get white or brown eggs. Right?
I thought of another question. If I see a bin of Easter Eggers and a bin of Barnyard mix for sale at the feed store, there's absolutely no reason to pay extra for Easter Eggers?
So looking at some adult hens of unknown breed, there's no way to know if they are Easter Eggers or barnyard mixes? (Unless they have muffs, then you can narrow it down.)
I have some Easter Eggers I bought on purpose and you're right, they look similar in build, but don't they get the muffs? And if these are Easter Eggers, wouldn't they be more mixed breed looking? I think they look like they are all the same.
These pics show golden sex links with a red x on them hanging out with what are supposed to be Ameraucaunas. Including the pic with the one up on the roost (same age just looks bigger from camera angle.) These don't look like other Ameraucaunas I have bought in the past. Their cheeks aren't...
They do sometimes. I hold her and have her stand on my hand and fingers, and sometimes the toes behave appropriately and grip, but then they go back to being floppy.
Thank you everybody! This little chicken made it. 2 days before I had saved one that had hatched outside with its mama but the mama had shoved him to the side and he was ice cold and I thought dead. Then I incubated one egg that hatched easily, then this one that we were talking about in this...
Hi. I have a very nice huge black Jersey Giant year old hen. She lays lovely eggs. She has had poopy but from the time she was about 7 weeks old. I have done all kinds of different things, trim her butt feathers, give her electrolytes, give her probiotics, give her yogurt, and I was going to see...
Thank you. I got her at a local feed store and they say all their chicks are vaccinated for Marek's. Would it present initially with just trouble with one leg? The splaying happened after about 5 days. I've got 45 chicks here ages 2 weeks to 9 weeks. 38 have had exposure to the 5 she was...
