She just came out a few minutes ago, it was very awkward. Now I'm afraid the ramp is too dangerous. So, I think we'll be making other accomodations for her. She seems to enjoy being outside, but maybe should be housed at ground level.
So, three weeks later, she is outside in a small older coop and temporary pen, getting acquainted with the rest of the flock. Doing very well so far.

Well, when I went out to adjust the heat, lo and behold, she had escaped! We found her and put her back in with something heavier over the top. She may be hurt, but she's strong.
On the way home from the hospital this morning, we saw one of those Tyson or Perdue chickens the shoulder of the highway. She must have fallen off a truck. She didn't seem injured, but cold and in shock, and very dirty.
We wrapped her in a jacket and brought her home, set her up in an old...
I use a version of the deep litter method in my coop. In fall and winter I turn over the bedding every day and remove excess droppings every few days. In warm weather I remove droppings every day to help keep the flies down (not that it does much good lol).
The run is grass and dirt and is...
Hello! We are looking to re-home two of our roosters, one Barred Rock and one Rhode Island Red. Raised from chicks, 11 months old. Good looking and healthy. We simply have too many and the girls are taking a beating!
We are in Accomack Co, VA. Let me know if you are interested.
