4 soft shell eggs today ☹️

Thank you for your comments! We are going to try switching to Kalmbach feed instead of Sprout from Fleet Farm. We do have a camera in the coop but the soft ones are sitting there after I wake up! Plus not great quality camera. One hard and one soft so far today. When I scooped it out it felt...

4 soft shell eggs today ☹️

We are getting one or two hard shelled each day. I’m pretty sure 2 are not laying yet—combs not super red, not squatting. They are smaller/skinnier type. I know one is a cream legbar, not sure about the other.

4 soft shell eggs today ☹️

We have 7 hens just over 20 weeks old. We started getting a couple eggs 3 weeks ago. We’ve been getting 1 or 2 soft shell eggs on the poop shelf for 10 days. Now today 4 soft shell on shelf. I am so discouraged! They have oyster shell in the run, they have a nice woodsy area to free range and...

2 Soft Shell Eggs in a Row?!

Yes, we have oyster shell anytime they want it. I have a hunch it’s Billy Jean, but I don’t really want to shove a pill down her throat! I’m going to order some Kalmbach from Chewy and crush up some egg shells too. They seem to like it more than the oyster shell. Thanks!

2 Soft Shell Eggs in a Row?!

We have had this problem too. Not sure which girl is laying the soft ones. Going on a week, today 2 soft ones on the poop shelf. We have 2 other layers and 4 not started yet. Should I add something to all the food? I’m also concerned it’s the feed from Fleet Farm. I have heard Kalmbach is good.

Chicks won’t put themselves to bed!

We were away one overnight last week and turned off the auto door. The next night they put themselves to bed and have been doing so all week! Still not using the roost bars but hopefully when they get bigger. Thank you all for your input! I love having this forum to ask questions.

Chicks won’t put themselves to bed!

Yes, we raised the bottom of the ramp up and put another little ramp that turns. Tonight I’m going to try enticing them up with mealworms.

Chicks won’t put themselves to bed!

I think the ramp inside is too steep for them, we need to modify it. This morning they were all up on the poop shelf scratching around, I tried to get them to come down the ramp with mealworms but they were having trouble (we put them up there last night). I put them down and they immediately...

Chicks won’t put themselves to bed!

It’s vinyl flooring. I just put hemp bedding on it for the time being. Thanks for the tips!

Chicks won’t put themselves to bed!

Yes, automatic door and they go in/out all day, not afraid of the ramp. At dusk I put them gently in through the door. This was the first night, I put them on the roost but only 2 stayed up there. I need to tie up those cords. I was worried about them getting cold until we got this hot weather...

Chicks won’t put themselves to bed!

This is before we moved them out. Since then we put bedding in the coop and food/water in the run. There’s one window and vents up high on 2 sides. We put a light in that I can turn off with my phone.

Chicks won’t put themselves to bed!

Ok, I guess we just keep doing it. They also don’t go on the roost, the huddle on the floor 🤷‍♀️

Chicks won’t put themselves to bed!

No, I don’t think it’s heat related. I have heard to lock them in the coop for a few days, but we can’t because it’s so hot in there during the day. Once we get leaves on the trees it’ll be nice and shady.

Chicks won’t put themselves to bed!

We moved our 7 five week old chicks out to the coop on Sunday. We are having unusually warm weather here in MN and they weren’t going under the heater in the dog pen anyway. Since there is no shade yet, the coop heats up during the day - it’s way too hot to lock them in. They love the run and go...
