Thank you for your response. The coop is 6 x 6 with an L shaped roosting area that all 7 chickens fit on with plenty of space. The run is 12 x 6. We have 2 feeders. The 2 bullies don’t seem to bother the other 4 as much as Monica. 6 are laying, only Monica is not. I will hold out until she...
We have 7 chickens about 6 months old. There’s definitely 2 top hens and 1 poor sweet girl named Monica. Monica is a Cream Legbar and she is always last to the party whenever treats are given, she’s usually off on her own digging in the yard. She is so nervous and skittish whenever confined to...
I didn’t know 1 chicken could lay more than one egg a day, soft or hard! This is all new to me. Our situation seems to have resolved and I have the oyster shell flakes arriving tomorrow. The crumbles are going in the garden next year. By any chance are you giving them kale for a treat? I read...
We switched to Kalmbach and were not getting any soft shells until this morning we had 2. I think it’s our last 2 chicks that are just starting to lay. Not sure if the feed switch that helped the others. We have also been breaking up egg shells, they seem to like it more than the oyster shell.
Thank you for your comments! We are going to try switching to Kalmbach feed instead of Sprout from Fleet Farm. We do have a camera in the coop but the soft ones are sitting there after I wake up! Plus not great quality camera. One hard and one soft so far today. When I scooped it out it felt...
We are getting one or two hard shelled each day. I’m pretty sure 2 are not laying yet—combs not super red, not squatting. They are smaller/skinnier type. I know one is a cream legbar, not sure about the other.
We have 7 hens just over 20 weeks old. We started getting a couple eggs 3 weeks ago. We’ve been getting 1 or 2 soft shell eggs on the poop shelf for 10 days. Now today 4 soft shell on shelf. I am so discouraged! They have oyster shell in the run, they have a nice woodsy area to free range and...
Yes, we have oyster shell anytime they want it. I have a hunch it’s Billy Jean, but I don’t really want to shove a pill down her throat! I’m going to order some Kalmbach from Chewy and crush up some egg shells too. They seem to like it more than the oyster shell. Thanks!
We have had this problem too. Not sure which girl is laying the soft ones. Going on a week, today 2 soft ones on the poop shelf. We have 2 other layers and 4 not started yet. Should I add something to all the food? I’m also concerned it’s the feed from Fleet Farm. I have heard Kalmbach is good.
We were away one overnight last week and turned off the auto door. The next night they put themselves to bed and have been doing so all week! Still not using the roost bars but hopefully when they get bigger. Thank you all for your input! I love having this forum to ask questions.
I think the ramp inside is too steep for them, we need to modify it. This morning they were all up on the poop shelf scratching around, I tried to get them to come down the ramp with mealworms but they were having trouble (we put them up there last night). I put them down and they immediately...
